Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States Pioneered user interface systems for reddit.com v3 redesign serving 50M+ daily active users, focusing on usability, separation of concerns, developer experience and scalability. Facilitated the scalable development of new post types while adding the third major post type (three creating the pattern), maintaining requirements such as ads and sponsored posts. Streamlined future experiments. Collaborated with design and product teams to implement user flows for a new safety-focused alternate front page and new search experience to fulfill a years-old pledge to users, balancing usability with safety requirements and implementing experiments to test user engagement patterns with new interface features. Reached out to stakeholders on stagnated issues and achieved results for users dealing with long-standing reports. Skills: Server-side rendering, Lit web components, native browser features, React, Typescript, GraphQL, Tailwind CSS, Figma, working on high traffic website, CI/CD, release queues/release process for large organizations Unfortunately had to leave unexpectedly due to an illness. ### Senior Frontend Engineer @ Rivian Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Palo Alto, California, United States Senior Software Engineer responsible for the React app for the service department of this Amazon-backed EV company. Final project was to implement the audit log feature for service requests, transforming it from difficult-to-parse blocks of text into an indispensable tool that could simply follow the story of any service request as it was passed from technician to technician. Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. We believe there is a more responsible way to explore the world and are determined to make the transition to sustainable transportation an exciting one. We designed our emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles to challenge what’s possible. We hope they inspire you to do the same. ### Growth Engineer @ Hired, Inc. Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area Growth / User Experience Engineer on the Acquisition team driving features centered around acquisition and growth of the Hired.com job marketplace. Hired.com stands out as a marketplace that limits signups to candidates who already have matching roles, and across a select set of industries, guaranteeing high quality and quantity of matches for both job-seekers and recruiters. Rewrote the monolith Rails Hired app onboarding experience in React with an updated responsive (mobile-friendly) design. Increased qualified onboarded candidates by around 15%, and candidates who went on to have at least three interviews by around 5%, exceeding project expectations. ### UI Engineer @ NGINX, Inc. Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco First frontend engineer IC hired to build NGINX Controller, a complex GUI for control/configuration of NGINX, helping to overcome various technical and UX-related challenges. Yes, we all had to learn how to set up and provision NGINX instances. (As well as use cases such as load balancing and deployment swaps.) Was put through official NGINX training classes. Co-hosted the keynote presentation that introduced Controller to the world at NGINXConf 2017. Unfortunately removed from YouTube when that version of the product was discontinued. ### UI Engineer @ OpenTable Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco, California Frontend software engineer working on a dedicated team responsible for an internal library of Angular web components. ### UI Engineer / Product Designer @ Vertical Knowledge Jan 2013 – Jan 2016 | Chagrin Falls, OH Front-end web application developer and designer with a focus in UI/UX design. Took products all the way from feature requests to feature sets to wireframes to final UI. Django/jQuery -> Angular -> React. And I handled the Sass. (Also our jQuery library-- we had a whole framework that let us spin up fully connected demo apps in less than a week.) Website: vk.ai PS It's been long enough, I can say now: We had some truly massive clients and were sitting on a mature (10+ year old) hoard of collected data (all open source, and still incredibly useful). I eventually worked at Reddit helping with things like performance on a new version of the app-- at VK, Reddit would have been just one of our data sources. I remember building an app for Twitter analysis that featured (as specific client requests) an unlimited number of columns in a single page scrolling layout representing saved searches, infinite scroll, and realtime streaming in of Tweets. I also built an undisclosed app that used every possible data source on the open web to return organized indexed search results in an easy-to-use format. Left for the greener pastures of San Francisco. ### IT Intern @ Parker Hannifin Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 | Fuel Systems Turbine Division - Mentor, OH Built a blog site using a .NET CMS for the division's HR department. I didn't have any prior web programming experience or professional programming experience. Also fixed some bugs in production code on the machines on the floor, and automated some data/inventory processing tasks which made a few people's lives much easier. ## Education ### Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Information Science/Studies Cornell University Jan 2008 – Jan 2012 ### Solon High School Jan 2004 – Jan 2008 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/rachaelpassov - Portfolio: https://rachael.io --- Source: https://flows.cv/rachael JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/rachael/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-25
