We monitor and maintain the ship's heavy machinery like the ship's service diesel engines, boilers, main engine propulsion systems, electrical power generation, and hotel services. We also are in charge of mentoring younger cadets in their future responsibilities as watch engineers. ### Student Assistant - Watch Engineer @ California State University Maritime Academy Jan 2023 – Present | Vallejo, California, United States As a student assistant-watch engineer, I am responsible for the engine spaces of the Training Ship Golden Bear and its port facilities for special events and holidays. This means working with another cadet and standing watch over shipboard engineering systems operations such as the ship's service diesel engines, boilers, main engine propulsion systems, electrical power generation, and hotel services. I am also accountable for completing all engine rounds and keeping an accurate/neat log book while providing an adequate change over with persons relieving the watch. ### Lower Class Engineering Cadet @ California State University Maritime Academy Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 Sailed aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear during Summer Cruise 2024 as a freshman cadet where worked with fellow cadets and licensed ship personal in ship's engine room operations. This included but was not limited to painting, welding, machining, basic circuitry, and standing watch over the ship's plant while underway and in port. I also assisted cadets with lost mail & package concerns, lost mail key notifications, and other mail/package requests and questions. ### Engineering Intern/Cadet @ Military Sealift Command Jan 2025 – Jan 2025 | United States I had the amazing opportunity to sailed with Military Sealift Command as an Engine Cadet part of their cadet shipping program where I was assigned to the fleet replenishment oiler USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204). For four months, I worked alongside both unlicensed and licensed engineering department personnel, gaining hands-on experience on ship machinery such as, heavy duty deck equipment, lube and fuel oil purifiers, air compressors, boilers, water purification systems, waste disposal, and ship service/main propulsion diesel engines. I also was fortunate enough to be onboard the Rappahannock when she took part of the bilateral military exercise Talisman Sabre 2025 where I conducted safe and methodical underway replenishments with the United States Navy and its allies.
