Experienced computer engineer with a background in both hardware and software.

My software experience has focused on back-end, server-oriented applications that need to be fast (high-throughput / low-latency). One such system was engineered to deliver 100 requests per second (per server), with a response time target of 10 milliseconds.

My hardware experience centres around full-custom integrated circuit design (both digital as well as analogue). Past projects have included ultra high resolution Δ-Σ (delta-sigma) data converters, hardware multithreaded microprocessors, and novel, custom circuits for wireless, inter-chip communication for 3D stacked ICs. This experience has been in the deep sub-micron regime, ranging from 180nm down to 45nm, with three successful chip tape-outs.

· Designed, architected, and implemented a replication and fail-over system for a custom, distributed server application (Python, Jython, Java, VertX)

· Successfully ported a server application to an in-memory, key-value datastore in order to reduce latency

· Created a RESTful API server to expose access to a time-series database

· Built a web-crawling Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) tool to parse and index 1 million webpages

· Increased performance of a full-text search system by identifying and remedying architectural deficiencies (achieved a 60x improvement in response times)

· Created a python library to access SSE3/AVX instructions on x86-64 microprocessors, delivering a 4x performance increase on primary performance metric
