I have worked mainly in the Energy Systems and Markets team, particularly in the areas of demand side response and energy storage technologies. We work with private and public sector clients (including National Grid, DECC, the European Climate Foundation, energy suppliers and technology startups) to look at the technical potential and economics of novel low carbon technologies, and how they interact with consumer behaviour. Our work is built on knowledge of the sector, robust modelling, and a strong technical understanding. Projects I have worked on include: - Supporting the Commission for Energy Regulation in Ireland on the cost benefit analysis for the Irish smart meter programme (ongoing). - Project for DECC on the benefits of home energy controllers for the energy system, and the barriers to realising these benefits. The publication of the report is expected in July 2016. - A project for National Grid on the potential for electric vehicles and heat pumps to provide frequency response services to the UK electricity system. The study report can be found at http://www2.nationalgrid.com/UK/Industry-information/Future-of-Energy/Technology-reports/. - ACCESS project on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. We are doing the data analysis for this trial, which is installing and controlling equipment in people's homes to match local heating demand to local renewable generation in real time. For more information on the trial, see http://www.accessproject.org.uk/. - The impacts of electric vehicle deployment on the French electricity system, including generation and distribution networks, and the possible benefits of smart charging for the system. - Work for private clients on energy storage and domestic demand side response projects. ### Master's student @ Imperial College London Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 Completed a Research Masters in Optics and Photonics. This included modules on Imaging, Lasers and Optical Measurement and Devices as well as a nine month research project working on the development of a light sheet fluorescence microscope. ### Summer Reasearch Intern @ Trinity College Dublin Jan 2012 – Jan 2012 | Dublin, Ireland A summer internship in the solar physics group in Trinity College. The project I worked on looked at coronal bright fronts that occur in the solar corona after a coronal mass ejection and at how these fronts can be automatically detected. I prepared a poster on this work to be presented at the Solar Information Processing Workshop in Montana University in August 2012. ## Education ### Master's Degree in Optics and Photonics Imperial College London ### Bachelor's Degree in Physics with Astrophysics Trinity College Dublin ### High School in Irish Leaving Certificate St. Columba's College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/rebeccafeeneybarry --- Source: https://flows.cv/rebeccafeeneybarry JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/rebeccafeeneybarry/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
