# Remoun Metyas > Product engineer | Building infrastructure for human connection at scale Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/remoun I've spent over fifteen years at organizations where software failures aren't abstract — they affect people's money, their access to credit, their safety. I build the platforms and products that have to get it right. The through-line isn't a technology stack. It's a question: what does it take to make connection possible at scale? I'm a UX-forward engineer with deep experience in distributed systems — event pipelines, real-time processing, platform architecture. I start from what users need and build the infrastructure to make it real. Currently: Senior Software Engineer at HaydenAI, building cloud infrastructure that helps keep public transit moving. Previously: Google, Waymo, Kiva, Sentz. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Hayden AI Jan 2024 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States * Designed and led the implementation of an orchestrator for event processing, which consolidates a tangled mess of message dispatching across our various services into one dedicated service, improving robustness, configurability and observability of the event processing pipeline. * Designed and led the implementation for extending the core schemas and all the services that use them to decouple fleets from violation processors. This was a 2-month effort of 2 senior engineers, and we successfully extended the system to more accurately model the real world, without any service interruptions. * Designed an implemented an event drip service to sample events from production to test environments and their corresponding S3 buckets. * Extended the portal UI with several features to provide new functionality and improve usability. ### Founder @ RM Tech Consulting Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 Offering full-stack software development services. ### Staff Software Engineer @ Metamorph AI Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 Technologies used include TypeScript, React, Next.js, ChatGPT API ### Staff Software Engineer @ MobileCoin Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States ### Senior Software Engineer @ MobileCoin Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area MobileCoin is a fast (< 5s), private (end to end encrypted leveraging Intel SGX), mobile-friendly and planet-friendly payments network. I have designed and delivered several robust features across different parts of the tech stack, including the core blockchain, the Moby app, and backend services that power the app. * Implemented several features end-to-end, from extending the Rust- and Kotlin-based backends to the Flutter-based client. * Built up a backend service from proof-of-concept to production, including setting up continuous integration, rate limiting, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance. Also implemented the client side calling this service. * Interfaced with external partners consuming the data ingested by this service. * Contributed to technical and UX design reviews across the board. Quoting a performance review: "Remoun sets the bar for how to be a good team citizen. Highly involved in code reviews, always trying to become more involved in the org and bringing creative ideas to the table, like doing pair programming sessions to help teammates improve their skills." Technologies used include Rust, Kotlin, Typescript, Flutter, gRPC, React, PostgreSQL ### Senior Software Engineer @ Kiva Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 Full stack engineer helping upgrade Kiva's backends. Notably includes helping build and launch several enhancements to auto-lending and subscription offerings, and reworking how the Kiva backend syncs data with Salesforce. * One of two engineers on the Auto-Lending team, the tool that made 9.6% ($1.5MM) of Kiva’s annual revenue and facilitate 19.4% ($25MM) of annual lending in 2020 (Auto-Lending revenue increased 750% from 2019; lending by 40%) * Led the $5 notes project, which lowered the minimum amount one can lend on Kiva.org from $25 to $5. Got the project to private beta; when scaled up, it will unlock upwards of $3MM in funds for auto-lending and make Kiva more approachable to new users. * Led a migration of how Kiva backends sync with Salesforce, switching from a polling-query model to a push-notification model with message passing for better scaling and robustness. Technologies used include PHP, Kotlin, JavaScript, Vue.js, SQL ### Software Engineer @ Waymo Jan 2016 – Jan 2019 Software engineer on the Simulation team, focusing on triage tools and processes: How we assess and label all the events that happen in real-world and simulated driving, digest those and focus on top issues, and measure performance of the Self-Driving System. Technologies used include C++, TypeScript, Python, Angular, Spanner (DB) ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2011 – Jan 2016 | San Francisco Bay Area Make Search even better. * Supported the Google Search Apps on Android, iOS, Windows 8+ and Windows Phone. In addition to server-side contributions, I have some code running in the Google app on each of those platforms. * Did a 6-month rotation with Search Frontend SRE, was primary oncall for Search for a few weeks. Also helped improve the DoS protections for Search apps. * Various UI features, redesigns and clean-up. * Presented "Pro Tips" training several times at the Search Features bootcamp. Technologies used include C++, Java, JavaScript, Python ### Co-Founder, CTO @ Databracket Jan 2010 – Jan 2012 Co-led development on IceCharge, our first flagship service. * Wrote in-browser client for users (JS, Dojo). * Co-authored backend (C++), frontend server (Python, Django), and shopping cart integration. * Primary owner of DB setup and administration (MySQL). ### Software Engineer @ IdentityMind, Inc. Jan 2009 – Jan 2010 * I was responsible for implementing the merchant frontend (with reporting, a dashboard, and other administrative functions) * Implemented the first REST API client, integrated with a shopping cart (KonaKart) * Contributed to the development of the JS responsible for 'deviceprinting' (gathering data about the device/browser making the order) ### Software Engineering Intern - Gmail Front End @ Google Jan 2008 – Jan 2008 * Implemented an experimental sign-up page for Gmail. * Designed and implemented an iGoogle gadget as part of a contest between interns in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), winning the Bronze medal. ### IT Intern @ Egypt Post Jan 2007 – Jan 2007 * Worked in hardware maintenance, actively repaired faulty computer hardware. * Assessing network infrastructure in regional office for an intranet upgrade. ### Undergraduate Teaching Assistant @ American University in Cairo Jan 2007 – Jan 2007 TA for Data Structures and Algorithms (CSCI 210) * Explaining algorithms and data structures to other students * Testing and debugging students’ programs. ### Database Administrator @ Niceco Elevators Jan 2003 – Jan 2005 Designed, developed and regularly maintained the company’s client accounts application. ## Education ### B.Sc. in Computer Science, with a minor in Mathematics The American University in Cairo ### IGCSE Gulf English School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/remoun --- Source: https://flows.cv/remoun JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/remoun/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
