# Rhyza Velasco > Software Engineer & Designer Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/rhyza ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Artian AI Jan 2024 – Present | New York, New York, United States Founding Front End Engineer and UX Designer. ### Associate Software Engineer @ Puppet Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | Greater Seattle Area I played a key role as the main front end engineer on the Puppet Pipelines for Applications (PfA) team as well as helped build the front end for Puppet's newest product launch, Relay by Puppet. I built and tested new features, improved the user experience throughout these products, and improved the existing code base for PfA. A few of the features I own in PfA: - new deployment interface - new billing interface (both the old 2018 billing model and the new 2019 billing model) - user accounts console page - updated interface to support Azure DevOps in our product - component that allows users to pin a default branch for builds - new interface that allows users to schedule deployments Some of the projects I worked on for Relay: - user profile page - terms of service page and flow - expansion and improvement of Puppet's design system - participating in bug bashes to ensure the user a clean experience I utilized React on the front end and Java/Go on the back end. Agile development and CI/CD is integral to my workflow. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Puppet Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Greater Seattle Area ### Front End Developer @ Freelance Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 I was commissioned to develop websites for a variety of clientele, including student organizations and small businesses. Each website I create implements responsive-design principles. I use HTML5, CSS3, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, and SQL and a local testing environment. ### Founder and President @ Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Society Jan 2014 – Jan 2017 | University of Connecticut UAVS is an organization dedicated to building and flying drones. The organization allows students to explore the various practical and artistic applications of advanced drones in an inclusive and collaborative environment. I created the organization from the ground up, and spent the next three years laying the groundwork for it to thrive. During my time here, I enlisted the help of other students who would be able to work together and improve the organization. As the club took off, I led meetings, planned drone builds, flight sessions, and scheduled future events. Some of these events include the involvement fair held each semester, collaborations, and a paper airplane fundraiser that successfully funded the our first drone build. I collaborated with the Chief Financial Officer on planning and budgeting organization purchases, procuring supporting financial documents, and ordering necessary materials. Thus we were able to secure over $49,000 worth of drones, drone-related equipment, and cinematography equipment UAVS has collaborated with administration and other student organizations on various visual projects on a university-wide level. The organization has provided aerial video for university promotional material and for news stories published by the university radio station. ### Build System Development Intern @ Red Hat Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Westford, MA I worked with the Automation Development team to accelerate and streamline processes by automating processes and building tools used throughout the company. I led a project to automate data collation from Teiid, using Python and SQL, for managers to assess team productivity each month. My project directly resulted in new engineering roles being created. I played a key role of coordinating with various teams on a project that aimed to collect and parse several metrics of the development pipeline, then create a visual dashboard to display those metrics using the Elastic Stack. This allows teams to assess the health of the pipeline at a simple glance and address any lapses in efficiency. I collaborated with teams distributed globally in China and the Czech Republic. We maintained efficiency and effectiveness by implementing Agile Software Development. I have experience working with bug-tracking tools such as Bugzilla, using JIRA as a project manager, and using GIT and code reviews through GitLab. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Computer Science and Engineering University of Connecticut Jan 2013 – Jan 2017 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/rhyzavelasco --- Source: https://flows.cv/rhyza JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/rhyza/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
