# Ritesh Tiwari > Product Designer · Cloud Networking & Security · MS CS + MS HCI · Enterprise UX Location: San Jose, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/riteshtiwari My background started in engineering. I did my M.S. in Computer Science, then went back for an M.S. in HCI at UC Irvine. That combination is not common, and it shapes how I approach every problem I work on. For the past 17 years I have been working on enterprise software that runs at scale. Network virtualization at Nicira and VMware, SD-WAN and SASE at VeloCloud and Broadcom, and now cloud networking and security at Arista. These are domains where a bad UI decision does not just frustrate someone. It costs them hours, triggers incidents, or erodes trust in a system they depend on every day. I work closest to the hard problems. Monitoring tools, analytics, configuration workflows, troubleshooting experiences. I collaborate directly with PM and engineering and stay close enough to front-end teams to make sure what we design actually survives implementation. Some things I have shipped that made a real difference. I built a design system from scratch as the only designer among 200 plus engineers, which became the foundation for a full product redesign. I redesigned monitoring workflows that cut support tickets in half. I designed VMware SASE end to end from zero, and customers who previously relied on third-party solutions migrated to our native offering. I also hold two patents in cloud networking and data center architecture. Outside of work I mentor designers navigating complex technical domains. It keeps me honest and connected to problems I actually care about. If you are building products where reliability, scale, or system behavior really matters, I am always open to a conversation. ## Work Experience ### Product Designer @ Arista Networks Jan 2025 – Present | Santa Clara, California, United States ### Master Product Designer @ Broadcom Software Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 | Palo Alto, California, United States Spearheading innovative design strategies and leading cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-"Edge" technology solutions. ### Staff-2 Lead SASE - User Experience @ VeloCloud, Now part of VMware Jan 2017 – Jan 2023 | Palo Alto, California, United States - Design System As the first and only designer among 200+ engineers, I created a design system (guidelines, patterns, components, typography, error/empty states, Etc.) from the ground up using Clarity Design Framework. This design system connected global development teams on a common design language foundation, which increased the reusability of common patterns, decreased design inconsistencies, and adherence to brand identity, and increased accessibility by 100%. This design system also became the foundation of our product redesign into Angular UI. - Product Redesign The acquisition of VeloCloud SD-WAN by VMware brought a product with a rich and functional user interface written in CanJS but with fundamental usability challenges. Every aspect of the user interface, from basic layouts to discoverability to workflows, competed for the user's attention, and over time, the product had become a "feature factory." As the product grew in popularity (earning the number one spot in Gartner's review for several years) and adoption increased, the design flaws became more apparent and painful. In response to this, we (Product Leadership) decided to deconstruct the entire product, feature by feature, to create a less cluttered, more accessible, highly localizable, and easier-to-use product without compromising the fundamental ethos of the product. The engagement with new and easy-to-use monitoring features reduced service tickets by 50%. - New vertical - SASE In August 2021, we introduced a new vertical called "SASE" - Secure Access Service Edge, which added Cloud Web Security and Remote Access to our Network/Connectivity portfolio. I designed this new security offering end-2-end from the ground up. After releasing VMware SASE offerings, we have seen significant solution adoption. Customers who previously relied on our partners or third-party solutions now use our solution natively. Currently, I am working on designing Advanced Threat Protection for our Edge. ### Senior Member of Technical Staff [NSX] @ Nicira Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Palo Alto, California NSX is a network virtualization platform that delivers the operational model of a virtual machine for the network. Virtual networks reproduce the network model in software, allowing complex multi-tier network topologies to be created and provisioned programmatically in seconds. NSX includes a library of logical networking services – logical switches, logical routers, logical firewalls, logical load balancers, logical VPN, QoS, and distributed security. A self-service interface allows users to create custom combinations of these services in isolated software-based virtual networks that support existing applications without modification or deliver unique requirements for new application workloads. Similar to virtual machines in compute, virtual networks are programmatically provisioned and managed independent of networking hardware. Decoupling from hardware introduces agility, speed and operational efficiency that has transformed data center economics. Roles & Responsibilities: - Lead the design, implementation, documentation of system architecture from scratch with minimal set of requirements. - Participate in the full product development life cycles. - Collaborate with project team members and cross functional product teams to execute product goals. - Push the envelope in adopting new technologies, best design practices to ensure our products are the best. - Provide technical leadership to other team members and be a team player. - Lead design and code reviews with a major focus on performance, scalability and future expansion. ### Member of Technical Staff, VSphere, Networking & Security @ VMware Jan 2005 – Jan 2015 | Palo Alto, California VMware vSphere is the industry’s leading and most reliable virtualization platform. vSphere simplifies IT by separating applications and operating systems (OSs) from the underlying hardware. Your existing applications see dedicated resources, but your servers can be managed as a pool of resources. The result is that your business runs on a simplified yet resilient IT environment Roles & Responsibilities: - Design, Develop and test partner facing VMkernel APIs. - Design, Develop and test pseudo network drivers - Analyze and decompose an extremely complicated ESX kernel and design a strategy to test the stack. - Conduct research on emerging technologies. - Provide high quality documentation of network solution APIs and devkits to partners for efficient self-enablement - Work with multiple groups/engineers across sites toward accomplishing the work as one team ## Education ### Master of Human Computer Intersection Design - MHCID in User Interaction and Design UC Irvine ### Master Design Thinking in Design and Visual Communications, General MIT Sloan School of Management ### Master of Computer Science in Computer Science Syracuse University ### Bachelor of Engineering - BE in Computer Engineering University of Mumbai ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/onlyritesh --- Source: https://flows.cv/riteshtiwari JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/riteshtiwari/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-07
