Optimization of Biconnected graphs on Planar Embeddings
My role was to formulate a cost-function based on number of bends allowed in a drawing or the lengths of edges.
My preliminary strategy was to associate a penalty for each bend in an edge. I minimized the number of bends per edge by redrawing the graph (finding its isomorphs), thus reducing the cost.
Data structure - SPQR Tree
Algorithms - algorithm checks for the planarity and the orthogonal drawing of the input graph (Open Graph drawing framework) 
It finds direct application in a variety of areas including circuit layout, graphics, computer-aided design, and automatic graph drawing.
