# Rodrigo Tomaz > ⚙️ Industrial Robotics Engineer by career | 📱 Android Developer by choice | 🏞️ Fascinated by the great outdoors Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/rodrigotomaz Working in Silicon Valley for almost 10 years, I'm a Robotics and Motion Controls Engineer turned into an Android Developer by choice, with a passion for great designs and friendly/accessible user interface applications. Proud founder of a failed startup that granted me the most intense and lasting knowledge and experience that no MBA would ever provide. I'm a self-taught, detail-oriented, and creative person. My fascination for beautiful designs brought me to ditch a routine surrounded by sturdy machinery for delicate details on the screen. ## Work Experience ### Android Software Engineer @ Rakuten Rewards Jan 2023 – Present | San Mateo, California, United States As part of the Design System team, I'm primarily responsible for building and maintaining UI components of Rakuten's Android app. While actively communicating with designers and developers, it's also part of my routine to collaborate with efforts to maintain and improve the overall platform and internal processes. My key tasks include: * Develop Android UI components that prioritize engagement, user-friendliness, and accessibility; * Create clean, maintainable, and well-tested code; * Contribute to platform maintenance and updates with a focus on usability and performance. Tools: * Android SDK, XML-based & Jetpack Compose UI development, * GraphQL, Git, Jira, and others. ### Android Software Engineer @ Pilothouse Consulting Inc. Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | California, United States Android development, automated UI tests, and Quality Assurance - QA of the Hilton Honors Hotels app. Develop and maintain software applications using CI/CD and DevOps practices. Working collaboratively in a distributed team, using tools like Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Microsoft Teams. ### Founder and Developer @ Zipstage Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | United States Embarking on an entrepreneurial journey with Zipstage, a collaborative music app, I gained hands-on experience in design and full-stack app development, Play Store release, user research, and market validation. Gathering insights from over 300 potential users, I faced the challenges of customer discovery, iterated on product strategy, defined key app functionalities, and crafted effective advertisement strategies. Engaging with investors, advisors (professors, founders, tech professionals, and others), and specialized literature, I learned the nuances of creating a company from scratch and received valuable feedback on business models and relevant market knowledge. Growing as a resilient individual/professional, I made tough technical and financial decisions, ultimately choosing to pivot away from building my own company. While Zipstage reached an endpoint, the journey was rich with learning experiences. It honed my technical skills, refined my ability to navigate the startup landscape, and strengthened my communication and networking capabilities. Though the venture concluded, the skills and insights gained remain invaluable as I continue my professional journey. ### Senior Industrial Robotics Engineer @ Bosch Rexroth Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Pleasanton, California, United States Industrial Motion Controls Engineer with experience in designing, starting up, troubleshooting, and creating software for high-precision/high-speed machines in the automotive, food, space, semiconductor, defense, and medical industries, among others. Side Notes: 1. Back in 2008 and 2009, tools like Dropbox and Google Drive were unavailable or at least unknown to most people - me included. At the time, the company had a process that required CDs containing documentation to be transported from one building to another for shipping. To streamline the process, I suggested storing a protected image (.ISO) of that CD in a shared folder so that the shipment department could record the physical media when needed and in the necessary quantity. 2. In the documentation department, my coworkers and I spent a lot of time doing repeated tasks to re-write and review documents as the equipment's specifications changed often. I proposed a method to auto-populate some technical data in the documentation, making it faster and minimizing errors. For budget reasons, the solution was not approved by the management though. A few years later, a former colleague (developer) implemented my idea at his new company - Intel. According to him, the solution was approved and celebrated by managers and colleagues. ## Education ### Electrical Engineering in Electrical Engineering Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/rgtomaz --- Source: https://flows.cv/rodrigotomaz JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/rodrigotomaz/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
