# Roger Ibars > Product Designer Location: Seattle, Washington, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/rogeribars Currently I am a Product designer at Meta Reality Labs, working on the intersection of Hardware and Interaction, designing AI Glasses. Previous to this, I worked at Microsoft in Beijing and Redmond, Sony in Tokyo and Deutsche Telekom in Berlin, which helped me explore designing digital products through the lens of different cultures. As a product designer I I’ve conceptualized, designed and built working prototypes to demonstrate new Interaction Models for products such as Playstation 4 at Sony; Kinect, Xbox One, Surface Hub, Cortana, HoloLens at Microsoft; and AI glasses at Meta. My research interest include Social Sciences, Human Computer Interaction and Critical Design. I believe in making products that while embracing highly technical challenges, create new social fabrics of interactions that consider both the applications and implications of technology. I received my Bachelors in Industrial Design in Barcelona which I combined studying Sociology and Political Sciences. After graduating, I further explore the intersection of digital technology and product design at the Royal College of Art in London graduating from Design Interactions. During my MA, I did my internship at MIT Medialab in Dublin. Since graduating I started an exploratory practice of tangible interactions called Self-made objects (rogeribars.com) building Hard-Wired devices, exhibiting them in many countries (Centre Pompidou, Lisbon Bienal, Tokyo DesignTide, Seoul Game Art Museum, CHI Conference), giving talks (Doors of Perception, and Pecha Kucha, Dorkbot) and teaching Interaction Design (ECAL in Switzerland, Tokyo Musashino University, Kyoto Design University). ## Work Experience ### Product Designer @ Meta Jan 2020 – Present | Greater Seattle Area At Meta I'm exploring, defining and designing Interaction Models and Hardware UX for Augmented Reality glasses (Orion). ### Senior Interaction Designer @ Microsoft Jan 2013 – Jan 2019 | Redmond, WA At Microsoft, I designed and built working prototypes to demonstrate new interaction models for products such as Kinect, Xbox One, Surface Hub, Cortana, Windows Hello, HoloLens, Mixed Reality and AI cognitive services. ### Interaction Design Consultant @ Deutsche Telekom Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | Berlin Area, Germany I led the interaction team for Soundian, an in-house seed funded startup service application which enables DT customers to inject sounds into voice conversations. My role ranged from incubating the original idea, define the interaction models and build the first prototypes. ### Senior Interaction Designer @ Microsoft Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 | Beijing, China My main research project explored gesture interactions for Kinect enabled see-through video glasses, (HoloLens). During my research I built several experience prototypes, created visual demos and speculate with new interaction paradigms using hand gestures and wrist worn EMG devices. ### Interaction Design Consultant @ Deutsche Telekom Jan 2008 – Jan 2011 | Berlin, Germany My role was to explore depth sensing technologies applied to 10 feet interactive environments. My job was to create a research framework, facilitate creative workshops, turn user insights into design concepts and visualise those with working prototypes or demo videos. ### Interaction Design Consultant @ Sony Jan 2006 – Jan 2008 | Tokyo, Japan At Sony I explored new control devices for Sony PS4 Interactive TV. I was responsible for researching use cases, outline interaction models, evaluate input sensors and build fully working prototypes with mechanical and electronic parts ready to demo and test with users. Several patents were issued both in UK and US markets. ### Research Assistant @ Nokia Jan 2006 – Jan 2006 | Java, Indonesia I worked as a research assistant for a field study conducted in Indonesia to explore ‘Shared phone use’ for Nokia Research Center (NRC). My role was to interview users on the field across the Island of Java, document insights and generate a research framework with the results. Documentation is available online and the results were presented at TED Global by Jan Chipchase in 2007. ### Intern Researcher @ MIT Media Lab Europe Jan 2002 – Jan 2003 | Dublin, Ireland I did my internship at the Wellbeing Group. My job was to speculate connections between the quantified self, healthcare services and nascent digital social networks. ## Education ### Ma in Interaction Design Royal College of Art Jan 2001 – Jan 2003 ### BA in Industrial Design Universitat Ramon Llull Jan 1995 – Jan 1999 ### Sociology Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Jan 1993 – Jan 1996 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/rogeribars - Portfolio: https://rogeribars.io --- Source: https://flows.cv/rogeribars JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/rogeribars/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-30
