# Rohan Lekhwani > AI @ Amazon || Open source Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/rohanlekhwani Building products that scale to real-world users is my mission statement. Currently working as a Software Engineer at Amazon Lab126 at the Devices and Services FinTech team where I also spent a Summer and Fall interning. I pursued an MS in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I have a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and cloud computing. My experience includes working as a software engineer at Gojek, where I led the development of Skynet, an infrastructure-as-code solution using Terraform that onboarded over 1300 internal applications. I have been a Google Summer of Code student and a mentor for two projects. I developed Poll Plus, a polling app downloaded over 1600 times, and founded RC4Community, a React-based platform for online communities with over 30 stars on GitHub. I also have experience working with machine learning, having modeled an end-to-end architecture using Keras to predict landslides with 94% accuracy during my research internship at DRDO. In addition to my technical skills, I am also an active member of the tech community. I co-led the UMass Amherst team for the Alexa Prize Challenge, where I focus on LLM deployments and scaling on AWS. I have mentored two projects at Rocket.Chat for Google Summer of Code 2022, and I started InfInITy, a competitive programming contest at IIIT Pune that receives over 12,000 submissions globally on Codechef every year. I have also been recognized for my work, receiving the Best Innovation Award in Computer Science for my paper FastV2C-HandNet at ICICC, UILA 2020. I am always seeking new challenges to grow my skills, knowledge and opportunities. Ask Rino has been used by 400+ finance managers at Amazon across 41,000+ conversations, featured at internal FinTech conferences, actively pushed by the VP (Tobias Straub) into cross-org adoption, and referenced by the Amazon CFO (Brian Olsavsky). Now a VP-level Kingpin goal with a 100% onboarding target. As the highest code contributor, I led Ask Rino from 0-1 and built core infrastructure that powers it: - Architected one of the first remote MCP server infrastructures at Amazon, a centralized gateway connecting finance services directly into the AI platform. 2 MCP servers onboarded, 175+ tool invocations in 3 months. - Extended the MCP protocol to a novel third transport layer to allow Ask Rino to securely operate on users' local systems (think OpenClaw). - Built agentic text-to-SQL workflows that write, self-correct, validate, and execute queries on sensitive financial databases autonomously. Backed by an eval stack with 93%+ accuracy across 93 test queries. - Secured Ask Rino's citation sources and links with CloudFront Signer allowing restricted access within Amazon. Supports 9 file types for user upload and chat. - Solved a critical ThrottlingException error due to Claude's rate limits by proposing a novel model cycling method that scaled throughput to 600 requests per minute, bypassing the need for VP/SVP-level provisioned capacity approval. Query API - Built the Query API for blending calculations across monthly and lifetime device cost reports - 2,100+ calls in its first 4 months, now central to reporting and downstream services. - Optimized latency by 98%, reducing deepest-level lineage calculation from 33.5s to 546ms. ### Software Engineer @ University of Massachusetts Amherst Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Amherst, Massachusetts, United States Building controllable expertise selection interface using LACE model for reviewer paper assignment on Openreview with Sheshera Mysore and Andrew McCallum. ### Graduate Student Researcher @ Graphite Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 Self discover based style transfer for long form text with Gregory Druck. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Amazon Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | Sunnyvale, California, United States Whistler: Financial Anomaly Detection - Cut financial anomaly detection runtime 50% by moving from S3 to DynamoDB for Amazon Device, saving 18,000 file creations. - Migrated AWS Step Functions infrastructure from Console to AWS CDK leading to scalability and code reusability. Whistler Auditor: Centralized Cross-account Logging - Accelerated failure tracking by 85% through the streamlined processing of 2k+ cross-account logs per month into Amazon Redshift. Custom Product Hierarchy: Hierarchical Relationship Linking - Designing and building a property-graph based custom hierarchy data model for 8k+ Amazon ASINs using Amazon Neptune, enabling insight generation. ### Software Engineer @ University of Massachusetts Amherst Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | Amherst, Massachusetts, United States Engineering co-lead for the Alexa Prize Taskbot challenge under Prof. Hamed Zamani at the Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) to build conversational agents for recipe and DIY tasks. Alexa Prize Taskbot Challenge is a global competition to create next-generation conversational AI experiences that delight customers by addressing their changing needs as they complete complex tasks. ### Graduate Student Researcher @ University of Massachusetts Amherst Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | Amherst, Massachusetts, United States Transformed Carbon Cast - a time-series forecasting system to preduct hourly carbon intensities, to make predictions on real-time data over 13 grid regions (7 in the US, 5 in Europe and 1 for Australia) under Diptyaroop Maji and Prof. Prashant Shenoy. ### Google Summer of Code '22 (Mentor) @ Google Summer of Code Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 Mentored two projects: Rocket.Chat ReactJS Full Stack Component and GitHub App. ### Open Source Contributor @ Rocket.Chat Jan 2020 – Jan 2022 Active contributor to Opensource-Contribution-Leaderboard and Rocket.Chat.
