• Owned service (800 req/s) to track user insights based on classifications to aid personalization experimentation, including developing, deploying, and maintaining two new classifiers for first-time posters and high-volume sellers.
• Created MVP of OfferUp Communities responsible for pagination and retrieving posts (750K expected users).
• Implemented moderation logic within server layer and DynamoDB for Communities (caught >150 “bad” posts in beta).
• Led cross-functional effort to create high availability Kafka based data infrastructure that tracks all ongoing promotions by item, categorizes views and engagements (75M events per month) based on promotion status, and enriches data stream.
• Created KSQL pipeline and API interface to assign pricing data to item posts and store this information in DynamoDB.
• Migrated deployment for 3 high-volume (> 1M req/mo) kubernetes services to ArgoCD to reduce mean time to repair by 80%.
• Restructured location service, resolved two year old issues and created error-handling infrastructure to save requests to external API (1.24M requests per month avoided), increase robustness/availability, and reduce operational cost.
• Onboarded 7 near-real time event types to the admin portal, improving admin visibility and simplifying event management.
• Built integration testing architecture for personalization service (300 req/s) to reduce testing workload to a 1-click action.
• Created live Datadog dashboard regarding team ownership of (>1,000) AWS cloud resources used by DevOps to triage issues.
• Engineered MVP for a notification system for unread messages and won “user-retention” themed hackathon.

Designed and authored test suite with over 20 test modules for 80% coverage of the production-level Hardware Test Database interface utilizing Python and SQL for unit testing and overall integration testing to aid in large-scale database migration rollout.
▪ Analyzed requirements from team of 5 software engineers and developed appropriate continuous-integration pipeline in Gitlab for the test suite that set-up and deployed tests in parallel MySQL and MariaDB Docker containers at 12-hour intervals.
▪ Independently developed lightweight bash script that increased deployment speed by 66% by allowing developers to make changes in the test suite, commit those changes in Git, and run the test pipeline in a specified environment with a single command.

▪ Collecting and modeling qualitative and quantitative data from 10 participants in a behavioral study involving haptic feedback gaming equipment.
▪ Reading and analyzing 12 papers about haptic gaming and the psychological factors that play into e-sports for research context.
▪ Writing as co-author on research paper associated with ASSIST Lab

▪ Created, tested, and presented a Virtual Journalist application that runs on Android, iOS, and Web, including a messaging bot that lets users record stories, securely stores user recordings and account information, and allows access to previous recordings.
▪ Implemented the application with a Python (Flask) backend and React JS, Angular, and the Ionic Framework. Stored and accessed user account information, along with individual recordings, from an existing AWS EC2 instance.
▪ Analyzed and learned from academic papers about Neural Networks, the Transformer NLP model, and state of the art Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing technologies.
