# Ro Malik > Yale Computer Science with interdisciplinary emphasis Location: Chappaqua, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/romalik I'm an undergraduate at Yale with a primary focus in computational biology, translational genomics, and oncology, as well as interests in formal linguistics, cognitive science, and science & technology philosophy/policy. I am pursuing graduate level coursework across all of these disciplines, as well as research in two Yale labs, tied together by a desire to apply formal methods to understand human problems—whether language, the mind, or cancer, I hope to build bridges between scientific and humanistic pursuits in ways that can enrich and empower both. If you'd like to chat, please reach out! I'll be just as excited to share my interests as I am to hear about yours. ## Work Experience ### Computational Biologist @ Yale Cancer Center Jan 2024 – Present | New Haven, Connecticut, United States Working in Dr. David Braun's lab on large-scale analysis of datasets sourced from patient tumor samples. Performing translational research aimed at using computational techniques to discover markers for cancer treatment response across subtypes, with a particular focus on immunology and kidney cancer (RCC). ### Computational Biology Reseacher @ Yale University Jan 2024 – Present Working in Dr. Mark Gerstein's lab on large-scale computational genomics-based approaches to understand and identify the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of cancer and neuropsychiatric disorders, using tools and techniques from mathematics, data science, and computer science. Currently investigating sex-specific effects in neuropsychiatric disorders using new single-cell brain tissue data and statistical modeling. Independently write code, perform analyses, create figures, and present work to peers; multiple journal and conference papers in preparation. ### Software Engineer @ CourseTable Jan 2023 – Present | New Haven, Connecticut, United States Core developer on small team, creating Yale's primary course catalog web platform used by thousands of students; work individually and in collaboration with others to maintain existing code and roll out new features while optimizing for efficiency and user experience. ### Tutor @ Unknown Jan 2020 – Present | Westchester County, New York, United States Tutoring students in computer science and programming, and competitive mathematics using an interactive, hands-on approach and methods. ### Computational Biology Intern @ Recursion Jan 2025 – Jan 2025 | New York, New York, United States Work on Decision Science team developing and validating statistical and deep learning models for patient selection, utilizing genomic data and real-world evidence. ### Software Engineer @ Amicus Brain Innovations Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 | Westchester County, New York, United States Worked directly with the founder and CEO, Dr. Chitra Dorai, a former IBM Fellow Created tools with Python that integrate into the company's product pipeline, including its chatbots and other AI offerings, and work alongside its existing services to improve their efficacy - Collaborate with team members to design and implement novel natural language understanding (NLP/NLU) algorithms - Built APIs and documentation to enable integration with other products and facilitate knowledge transfer - Automated analysis and mining of massive datasets to extract information and trends, in order to improve the scope and quality of the company's AI products - Helped onboard new members and evaluate candidates, as well as providing feedback on others' code and algorithms Currently work with the company in a consulting capacity; recently built an implementation of an ensemble of semantic similarity algorithms to process music licensing/copyright claims. ### Computational Biology Researcher @ Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | New York, New York, United States - Conducted original research in cancer genomics along with graduate students and postdocs in the lab, leveraging techniques from biostatistics and machine learning - Studied dynamics of chromatin folding and their influence on gene regulation, particularly in immune cells; helped design, implement, and verify an analysis method that outperforms the current state-of-the-art and reveals more potential therapeutic targets - Extensively used R and Python to implement novel methods and perform the first in-depth analysis of new biological datasets - Created web applications with React & HTML/CSS/JavaScript to organize and share thousands of figures with the broader scientific community to facilitate future research - Interfaced with collaborators at other labs across the country to supplement their research and strengthen our findings - Second author on a Nature Genetics publication ### Quantum Computing Intern @ IBM Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Yorktown, New York, United States - Self-studied the underlying mathematics, physics, and computer science behind quantum computing as well as modern applied toolkits and software packages such as Qiskit - Developed QuantumMessenger, a proof-of-concept web-based messaging client using quantum key distribution to securely encrypt communications in a quantum-safe manner ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Science Yale University Jan 2023 – Jan 2027 ### Chinese Language and Literature Princeton University Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 ### High School Diploma in High School/Secondary Diplomas and Certificates Rye Country Day School Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 ### Science Honors Program Columbia University Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 ### Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth (CTY) Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 ### Neurobiology and Behavior Brown University Jan 2019 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/ro-malik-6a8983202 --- Source: https://flows.cv/romalik JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/romalik/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
