# Ruperto F. > DevEx tools and AI Systems UX Design at AWS, Amazon Bedrock Location: Oakland, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/ruperto I design complex AI, data, and enterprise systems that people can actually understand and operate. At Amazon Bedrock, I focused on how teams build, test, and evolve AI behavior in production, including how they manage GenAI assets like prompts and connect them to datasets, evaluations, and model performance. My work centers on making powerful systems usable without hiding their complexity. I care about helping engineers and operators reason about what systems are doing, why they behave the way they do, and how to change them safely. That means designing for clarity, trust, and control in environments where mistakes are costly and abstraction alone is not enough. I work closely with scientists and engineers to translate deep technical work into interfaces that support real decision-making, not just setup. Across AI platforms, enterprise tools, and operational systems, my goal is to make complexity operable so teams can focus on creating value instead of wrestling with infrastructure. I care deeply about building systems that are transparent, reliable, and empowering, especially as AI becomes more powerful and harder to reason about. Design should help people stay in control, not feel overwhelmed by the technology they depend on. Outside of work, I’m a dedicated capoeirista, a matcha and espresso enthusiast, and a traveler who enjoys exploring new cultures and creative inspiration wherever I go. My work has been recognized by Communication Arts, Parent’s Magazine, and Taschen’s Web Design: The Evolution of the Digital World 1990–Today, and has received honors including a Webby People’s Voice Award, Clio Interactive Bronze, SXSW Interactive, and an Adobe Design Achievement Award. ## Work Experience ### Product Designer, Generative AI @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2024 – Present | Santa Clara, CA Led design of control planes for agentic workflows enabling developers to deploy, configure, evaluate, and safely expose LLM and foundation model behavior to production traffic through shadow testing and staged rollout. Built functional design to code prototypes daily using Kiro and Claude-based AI tools, exploring and validating complex workflow designs directly in code alongside engineering partners. Conducted user interviews and usability testing with engineering partners to validate control-plane workflow designs before production rollout. Collaborated with Science and Engineering teams to define interaction patterns for agentic experiences, reviewing technical documentation and agent behavior prototypes to translate system capabilities into usable end-user flows. ### Senior Product Designer, Observability and AI @ Conviva Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Foster City, CA Led UX design for a real-time observability platform used by engineering and operations teams to diagnose and resolve issues in high-volume streaming environments. Transformed high-cardinality telemetry data into structured, navigable dashboards that supported rapid root cause analysis and decision-making under time pressure. Grounded workflow design in field research and support channel analysis to accurately model SRE diagnostic patterns. ### Senior Product Designer, Talent Management @ Workday Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | Pleasanton, CA Led design for AI-assisted career exploration features within a large-scale enterprise platform. Defined interaction patterns that introduced machine learning and generative AI responsibly into user workflows, emphasizing explainability, user control, and enterprise-grade reliability. Worked cross-functionally with product, engineering, and data science to align AI capabilities with compliance, security, and system performance requirements. Mentored designers and contributed to cross-team design standards. ### UX Designer II, Databases & Analytics @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | East Palo Alto, CA Led end-to-end UX for AWS Glue Studio, a distributed ETL infrastructure tool for data engineers and scientists, driving 7x user adoption within six months through research-informed workflow design. Designed DAG-based pipeline authoring, embedded SQL transform interfaces, and runtime monitoring views with full operational control including modify, stop, and rollback workflows with guardrails to prevent invalid system states. Led end-to-end design of a query editor for Amazon QLDB with PartiQL support, type-ahead, keyboard shortcuts, multi-statement execution, and onboarding flows for technical users adopting NoSQL data structures. ### Lead Product Designer, Virtual Assistant @ Asurion Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | San Mateo, California Led design for a virtual assistant platform used across internal and partner systems. Established reusable conversational patterns and escalation models that balanced automation with transparency, ensuring users understood system boundaries and next steps. Contributed to shared design components supporting scale and cross-team consistency. ### Senior User Experience Designer, Mobile @ JPMorgan Chase & Co. Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco, California Designed secure mobile experiences in a highly regulated financial environment where correctness, reliability, and predictability were critical. Delivered customer service and money movement features that met compliance standards while maintaining usability at scale. Collaborated closely with engineering to align interaction design with backend security and data constraints. ### Senior UX Designer @ Glu Mobile Jan 2013 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco Bay Area • Led the UX design for live mobile games developed in Unity, enhancing user engagement. • Collaborated closely with engineers in production codebases to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality, domestically and internationally with teams in Russia and China. • Designed UI systems, progression mechanics, and real-time state transitions, optimizing user experience. ### Consultant @ JRFabito.com Jan 2011 – Jan 2013 | San Francisco Bay Area Managed my own business as a freelance designer, artist, and software engineer, while independently designing and developing my own products. Independent contractor with the following creative agencies: • Struck (www.struck.com) • Rally Interactive (beta.rallyinteractive.com/) • Ignition Creative (www.ignitioncreative.com/) • Watson D/G (www.watsondg.com) • The Flock (www.theflock.com/) • Ubisoft (www.ubisoft.com) Projects ranged from the design and development of web sites, social-media applications, web banners, and mobile applications. Worked both on-site and remote. ### Senior Creative Developer @ Ignition Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 | Santa Monica, CA Lead developer of interactive experiences using HTML/CSS/Javascript and/or Flash. ### Senior Interaction Designer @ RED Creative Agency Jan 2007 – Jan 2010 | Santa Monica, CA Designed several critically acclaimed and award-winning interactive experiences. ## Education ### Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art, Concentration in Design Studies San José State University ### Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Computer Arts New Media Academy of Art University ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jrfabito - Portfolio: http://www.jrfabito.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/ruperto JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/ruperto/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
