# Ryan Marie Pilat > Learning Designer, Educator, Maker. M.S. Education @ Stanford. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/ryanmariepilat Hi, I'm Ryan. I’m passionate about designing learning experiences that inspire and empower students. My design approach puts the student’s strengths and interests at the center. I’m flexible and creative, with deep experience designing and developing STEM experiences and content for informal, playful learning. Through my MS in Education (Learning Design and Technology) from the Stanford Graduate School of Education, I have a grounding in evaluation and research methods, learning theories, and design processes. My current design work focuses on creating edtech tools that help students to build their creative problem-solving skills and develop their identities in STEM. If this sounds like your jam, I’d love to connect! ## Work Experience ### Researcher | Ideal Learning Lab @ Stanford University Graduate School of Education Jan 2025 – Present | Stanford, California, United States Leading a research study supported by a Joyful Learning seed grant from the Stanford Accelerator for Learning (SAL), under PI Dr. Shima Salehi. This study evaluates the efficacy of Reflective Notebook, an AI-enhanced digital engineering notebook I designed to make engineering education more accessible and relevant to students with diverse interests. ### Mentor | AI Tinkery @ Stanford University Graduate School of Education Jan 2025 – Jan 2026 | Stanford, California, United States This student role provides support to the Stanford community to explore and evaluate generative AI. In addition to supporting Tinkery visitors, I developed and facilitated AI literacy workshops to support GSE courses with prompting strategies, AI use in literature reviews, and AI tools for prototyping. ### Research Assistant | YouthLAB @ Stanford University Graduate School of Education Jan 2025 – Jan 2025 | Stanford, California, United States In this student internship role, I worked with a dataset of parent stories about joyful learning moments, identifying major themes and proposing design implications of those themes. Using those insights, I developed a functional prototype of a parent education intervention in order to support needfinding and feedback interviews. ### Educational Consultant @ RAFT - Resource Area For Teaching Jan 2025 – Jan 2025 | San Jose, California, United States In this student internship role, I interviewed RAFT education and development staff to understand their approach to hand-on STEM learning, then created a logic model summarizing the research basis and outcomes of their activities. ### Content Director @ KiwiCo, Inc. Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Mountain View, California, United States With this role, I took on responsibility for our online content strategy and production as well as building a new team to support copywriting, filming, and video editing. I created a series of short-form videos on STEAM topics which delivered millions of views over 5 months. I also re-launched our core YouTube channel with a new series focused on kid-friendly engineering challenges. ### Editorial Lead / Editorial Director @ KiwiCo, Inc. Jan 2015 – Jan 2023 | Mountain View, California, United States In these roles, I was responsible for all of the learning guides for all of our products, as well as managing the publishing, writing, photography, and videography functions to ensure strong creative collaboration and efficient production. New product development included teacher guides for a classroom product line, learning guides for a 14+ engineering line, video guides for a 14+ art line, an online summer camp curriculum for at-home learning during Covid, and a series of SEL storybooks for ages 0 to 4. ### Product Designer / Sr. Product Designer @ KiwiCo, Inc. Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 | Mountain View, California, United States These product design roles included concepting, prototyping, and user testing, as well as creating learning guides with instructions, science explanations, activity pages, and more. I worked on developing the new Tinker Crate product line (science + engineering, ages 9-14) as well as numerous products for Koala Crate (ages 3-4) and Kiwi Crate (ages 5-8). ## Education ### MS in Education (Learning Design and Technology) Stanford University Graduate School of Education ### BS in Physics Stanford University ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/ryanmariepilat - Website: https://www.ryanmariepilat.com/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/ryanmariepilat JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/ryanmariepilat/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
