As a data analyst, I annotated large amounts of geographical data in order to improve the accuracy of the product, a data model which concisely visualizes disaster risk in Earth's ever-changing climate. My location of focus was Japan, where I used QGIS to assess maps, rivers, water gauges, lakes, and dams and rectify discrepancies generated by the model. I learned a great deal about how machine learning can be practically applied to solve real-world problems, as well as the geographical factors which make can make areas "risky" in the event of a natural disaster. ### Machine Learning Research Intern @ Yonsei University Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Seoul, South Korea Assisted supervisor with graduate-level research. Used Deeplabv3+ deep learning model to analyze MRI scans in order to diagnose patients with Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ). Helped to tune model hyperparameters and gained lots of knowledge and working experience with ML/Deep Learning. ### Retail Cashier @ Costco Wholesale Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Mountain View, California, United States At Costco I began as a cashier assistant, managed return lines, stocked, assisted customers, and ran Costco promotions within the store. I constantly interacted with and assisted all sorts of different customers and co-workers in a fast-paced, rigorous retail environment. I gained considerable experience within the crypto space and both the domestic and international banking/financial spaces. ### Intern and Teen Engagement Council Member @ Computer History Museum Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area The Computer History Museum is an institution dedicated to the history of computing and the Information Age. As an intern at CHM, I designed/gave my own original tour throughout the program, created/manned gallery activity stations, and interacted extensively with visitors from all over the world. On June 21st, 2019, the museum held the "Teen Takeover: Idea to Influence” event. 15 other interns and I had been planning the event for six months prior, and I learned more on how to fundraise, allocate time, plan ahead, work in effective teams, and acquire necessary resources and reach out to relevant contacts. During the event, I was the volunteer coordinator. I allocated shifts for nearly 80 volunteers and ensured that floor operations between the various activity stations went smoothly. The event was a success, garnering very positive reception and attracting over 500 visitors. ### Software Programming Fellow @ Horizons School of Technology Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco Bay Area I was one of a handful of high-schoolers to be accepted to Horizons, an intensive and selective 12-week program that teaches primarily college students how to build practical websites and apps. There, I connected with students from colleges all over the world and focused on full-stack development using tools such as JavaScript, Node.js, Mongoose JS, MongoDB, React, and more. My final project was a fully functional mobile app that connects high-schoolers to community service opportunities, built using React Native. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science in Engineering - B.S.E. in Computer Science University of Michigan College of Engineering ### High School Diploma in General Studies BASIS Independent Silicon Valley ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/ryanjsong --- Source: https://flows.cv/ryansong JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/ryansong/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-31
