# Sahana Rangarajan > Software Engineer at Google | MS ECE student at CMU Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/sahanarangarajan I’m a recent EECS graduate from UC Berkeley’s college of engineering proficient in many languages, such as C/C++, Python, Java, Javascript, HTML, CSS, SQL, R, Objective-C, and MatLab. I have diverse coding experience ranging from commercial and freelance app development to TensorFlow-aided NLP research. I have applied the technical knowledge I gain in and outside of the classroom in a variety of work and research environments. By diving into each of the various roles I have held in these different contexts, I now have valuable practical experience in fields such as frontend development, topic modeling, deep learning, NLP, energy capacity modeling, and systems architecture. Outside of the realm of engineering, too, my interests are interdisciplinary in nature — I’m an avid violinist of 15 years, and I volunteered to tutor elementary school students locally during my undergraduate career. I was also an arts and entertainment staff writer at the Daily Californian. My biggest aim is to meld my passion for computer science with that for my other pursuits as I continue to explore the multifarious purposes for technology; I believe that the field is still plastic and growing to accommodate people with all manners of skill sets. I aspire to be on the vanguard of the revolution the industry is going through right now and apply my own diverse interests not only to make technology more accessible for all, but also to harness its manifold powers for practical purposes. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2022 – Present | Sunnyvale, California, United States ### Software Development Engineer in Test @ Sonos, Inc. Jan 2019 – Jan 2022 | Seattle, Washington, United States I'm part of a small team of developers working on a new automation framework. The scope of this work includes both programming as well as drawing up designs for infrastructure; as such, I have an eye on both the small and big picture of creating an almost entirely new framework. Because our work is deployed internally, I also collaborate with a variety of teams for a more holistic view of the product. ### Software Development Engineer in Test, Setup & Configuration Intern @ Sonos, Inc. Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Greater Seattle Area As an engineer in test, my role involves writing and carrying out technical test plans on new features for Sonos speaker setup. The includes ensuring that the setup flow is bug-free and coming up with customer-facing solutions to challenges on the mobile platform. I'm also developing code to support a new automation framework in order to facilitate future test environment setup. ### Research Assistant @ Hybrid Systems Laboratory Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Berkeley, CA I assisted on a project that simulates hybrid energy systems with low rotational inertia; I used principles of regression via neural networks in order to properly predict the performance of various parameters and facilitate optimization. ### Research Assistant @ RISELab Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Berkeley, CA The project I was involved in was at the intersection of human-computer interaction and database management systems. I worked on user-focused systems to handle large scale data inputs; this included using React and SQL to handle user interactions with streaming data. ### Electrical Engineering Mentor @ Computer Science Mentors Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Berkeley, CA I taught weekly sections to small groups of students taking the introductory electrical engineering course; many students were encountering circuitry and linear algebra topics for the first time. I covered topics from lecture and went through problem tutorials with the students and helped students devise test-taking strategies. ### Staff Writer @ The Daily Californian Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | Berkeley, CA As an arts and entertainment reporter, I have gained experience in writing reviews, conducting interviews, communicating with representatives, and working in a team. ### Undergraduate Research Assistant @ Renewable & Appropriate Energy Lab Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 I joined the RAEL at UC Berkeley in order to explore how I could use my technical expertise for socially beneficial practical purposes. To that end, I assisted in the creation of a longterm energy capacity modeling tool (PROGRESS) for energy development research as well as the tool's subsequent migration to Python. I also took the lead on creating an output schema to ensure the widest possible applicability; the tool is currently in use to parse and output data in an academic format for a case study soon to be published. I then took over the entire code base for the project and was placed in charge of writing the executive summary for publication. ### Undergraduate Research Assistant @ AutoLab Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Berkeley, CA I worked on creating a deep-learning textual error corrector for the purposes of generating practical databases with large unstructured data repositories. I wrote scripts to parse facts from newspapers and translated the scripts to neural nets using TensorFlow in order to automate the error correction process. I then created a full self-contained system to use TensorFlow's object detection API to harvest data from videos and create a SQL database with this info; the crux of my project was creating structured data from unstructured data sources. ### Full Stack Engineering Intern @ GoFind.ai Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 I held varied jobs at the startup GoFind, from frontend development to model training through TensorFlow in order to improve the accuracy of the product, which is essentially a visual search engine. ### Tech Team Intern @ SheCanCode Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 I joined SheCanCode, a startup devoted to the representation and empowerment of minorities in tech, early in its existence, and so I had a pivotal role in the development of its web platform. I also scraped web APIs to retrieve relevant training and empowerment events to post on this platform, with searches personalized by geographic location. ### Undergraduate Research Assistant @ BEST Lab Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Berkeley, CA I joined the Human Centered Design and Development research group at UC Berkeley's BEST Lab as part of a data-mining project to determine trends and connections within the HCD+D research community using unsupervised machine learning (topic modeling). ### Web Development Intern @ Deckstr Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 As a member of the web development team on the startup Deckstr, which functions as a virtual business card exchange platform, I’ve gained more experience in data mining through web-scraping. ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering Carnegie Mellon University Jan 2021 ### BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Minor, English UC Berkeley College of Engineering Jan 2015 – Jan 2018 ### University of Cambridge Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 ### The Harker School Jan 2005 – Jan 2015 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/sahana-r --- Source: https://flows.cv/sahanarangarajan JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/sahanarangarajan/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
