Automated Ansible patching and deployments, transforming a formerly manual, hours-long process into a zero-downtime deployment pipeline, ensuring seamless updates across 50+ instances without service interruptions. - Acted as Product Owner during a critical period, leading the team through a full Program Increment (PI) cycle, meeting all key deadlines including patching compliance, critical vulnerability remediation, and the successful onboarding of 50+ agencies. ### Engineering Manager @ U.S. Department of Homeland Security Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 - Streamlined AWS role-granting, reducing processing time by over 90% (from 3 months to 3 days), saving 5,000+ developer hours and $300K+ in costs. - Awarded the Agile Antelope Award (2024) for highest Agile Adoption Assessment Score (94.7%) within the department. - Oversaw a team of 8 engineers to resolve technical bottlenecks, optimize cloud infrastructure, and achieve critical performance milestones. - Oversaw implementation for the OHSS Project, processing Office of Homeland Security Border Data through a large-scale ETL pipeline and AWS SageMaker AI workflows to generate Tableau and BI dashboards, enabling government agencies to make real-time, data-driven decisions, leveraging AI-driven reporting to analyze real-time maritime data and generate actionable intelligence reports. - Deployed AWS SageMaker AI to manage the environment for the Maritime Dark Vessels Project, leveraging AI-driven reporting to analyze real-time maritime data and generate actionable intelligence reports. - Developed governance policies for AWS resource tagging and access control, ensuring security, compliance, and operational efficiency. - Improved user permission workflows, reducing permission-related escalations by 70% and enhancing collaboration across departments. - Implemented DevSecOps best practices, integrating automated security scans into CI/CD pipelines to reduce security vulnerabilities by 50% ### Senior Lead Software Engineer @ The College Board Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 - Nominated and won as the most agile development team at College Board in 2020 - Pioneered an AWS Fargate solution after initial pushback, showing our teams the use cases of Fargate over Lambdas. - Rebuilt our outdated and complex college survey data collection system. It now runs on a React front end and a headless CMS backend hosted on Fargate using backend services such as Lambdas, SQS, and Aurora SQL. - Developed robust AWS serverless backends for our Career Finder data in order to extract and serve data to our partner, Road Trip Nation. AWS services include Lambda, Aurora RDS, S3, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, CodePipeline, SQS, and IAM. - Worked with product owners to plan and execute solutions to solve business problems and satisfy business needs. - Redesigned our testing approach for more robust and efficient testing of our applications, forming a standard across our team. - Developed an AWS ETL that receives millions of records each month from our partner, Pearson, and moves those records through validations, transformations and into the correct storages to serve College Board’s other internal projects. - Created the first ever online SAT prototype that can support 1 million concurrent students, with an extremely aggressive due date. Our microservice parses recordings of students taking the SAT and streams it through machine-learning models to detect instances of cheating. We also built a React UI interface where human proctors can log in and review recordings. They can confirm or deny flagged videos, which will feed data to improve the machine-learning algorithm. AWS services used include Lambdas, DynamoDB, Fargate, S3, SQS, SNS, CloudFront and WAF. - Developed one of the first AWS CDK CI/CD pipelines at the CollegeBoard. - Worked with directors and product owners and led the team to meet aggressive deadlines.
