# Sam Henderson > Software Engineer Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/samhenderson ## Work Experience ### Founding Engineer @ Forge Jan 2024 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area Delegate repetitive work to computers. This is going to work. ### Founding Engineer @ VStream Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | San Francisco Bay Area A streaming service for VTubers. VTubers are streamers that use an animated digital avatar. Didn't work - couldn't pull the big VTubers away from Twitch/YouTube. Need 10M+ users for an advertising based business like that and we couldn't grow quick enough. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Instacart Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | New York, United States Online grocery delivery. Dipped after a few months. Can't do big companies. ### Founder @ Chef's Kiss Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Chef's Kiss is Doordash except the chefs cook from home. Main roles: - built the Remix/Laravel/React/Typescript web application (https://chefskiss.com.au). Had some sick features e.g. orders would get sent to Doordash on the backend and be scheduled for delivery, chefs could make their own menu (webpage), etc - pitching chefs to join the plaform - promoting the platform to consumers Didn't work - food delivery is a tough vertical with rough unit economics, especially when the home chefs aren't operating at scale. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Hinge Health Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco, California, United States I was the 50th (ish) engineer at Hinge Health. I worked in a pod of 5-8 engineers, designers and product managers. Hinge Health is a good company. It does something important (literally alleviates pain, and prevents opioids dependency) and has a good business model. The eng org is still effective, which in hindsight was impressive for a team of that size. Features I worked on: - Video conferencing between our internal React web app and our React Native mobile application. Scheduling of video calls was handled using an 3rd party integration with You Can Book Me. - Rate limiting across public auth endpoints in our Typescript Backend for Frontend (BFF). - Seed scripts to provision the test users required for Acceptance Testing. I did this for 5+ features. This was done in Rails. - Accessibility work. This involved making sure the screen reader worked intuitively for non-sighted users on iOS mobile devices, Amazon tablets, Lenovo tablets and Android mobile devices. - User email and SMS messaging based off an integration with EasyPost (postage service). When we would send packages to our users, we would SMS/email our users with updates on their package as we received them from EasyPost. This was done in our Rails monolith. - Introduced a split flag architecture to our React Native mobile application for non-logged in users using split.io and Mixpanel. ### Software Engineer @ Atrium Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area I was the 15th(ish) engineer at Atrium. Atrium didn't work. Justin gave investors their $$$ back. EPD couldn't make our lawyers more efficient. Lawyers workflows are too fragmented (there's a billion different workflows) for regular CRUD software. Looking back, we were 3 years too early - with LLM's I think we could have made them more efficient. We had a Typescript/React/GraphQL/Rails/Postgres web application that I worked on. Lead roles: - Architected our Roles & Permission System - Component library and Storybook - App redesign - React router paths standardization - Front-end candidate interviews IC roles: - Billing system - Hiring feature - Internal CRM - Company Profile feature - Client User Onboarding Flow - Specialist User Onboarding Flow - Internal Asana/Trello clone - Legal Specialists network ### Software Engineer @ Workyard Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Sydney, New South Wales, Australia I was Workyard’s first web engineer. I spent my first 9 months building and maintaining the React app which was the platform’s logged in version. The remainder of my time was spent optimising the public site (non logged in version) for SEO. The public site was a Laravel application. On the React app, I built common SAAS features including: - Login, Cookie based auth using JWT tokens, Password reset. - Real time chat using Sendbird API’s. - Monthly billing using Stripe. - File uploading using Uploadcare. - Everything had to be mobile responsive. - A facebook like news feed with notifications. - Mapping with custom polylines using Google Maps API. ### Founder @ Small Change Giving Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Sydney, Australia We enabled you to put donate buttons on online content before sharing it on social media. This allowed viewers of your post to donate small change to a charity related to the content you shared. We quit after 1 year. It wasn't really solving anyone's problem. ### Hack Reactor grad @ Hack Reactor Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | 944 Market Street, San Francisco Hack Reactor is probably the best software engineering program in the US. I did around 1000 hours of Javascript. ## Education ### Software Engineering Hack Reactor ### Bachelor of Science (Adv.) Physics in Applied Mathematics University of Sydney ### Higher School Certificate in 97.40 Barker College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/samuel-henderson - Website: http://samhenderson.xyz --- Source: https://flows.cv/samhenderson JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/samhenderson/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
