Detection of these diseases is a vital component within the medical industry and is in dire need of reliable medical devices that not only can accurately diagnose such diseases but also do so within a reasonable budget. The goal of the project is to improve real-time intravascular imaging for a better diagnosis of atherosclerosis as well as other cardiovascular diseases. Currently, Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) are two common imaging technologies. While theses technologies are beneficial on their own, they are not individually powerful enough to accurately assess plaque characteristics within arteries. By combing IVUS and OCT into one system, we can achieve both high resolution and deep penetration. ### Assistant Researcher @ The Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Liu Lab, UC Irvine The perspective of the project is to study the immune response to biomaterials in terms of macrophage cell reactions. Our experiment uses PLGA as a degradable implant material. The particles are further coated with biotinylated CD200 and implanted into mice which are later sacrificed at various time points for the study of macrophage inflammatory response. My main responsibilities are PLGA particles fabrication, maintaining cell culture, protein purification, and wet lab analytics. ## Education ### Master of Engineering - MEng in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering University of California, Berkeley Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 ### Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biomedical/Medical Engineering UC Irvine Jan 2014 – Jan 2017 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/gaosara9 - GitHub: https://github.com/sgao23 --- Source: https://flows.cv/saragao JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/saragao/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
