# Saumitra Saha > Software Engineer Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/saumitra Hello! I’m Saumitra (pronounced show-me-throw). I am a seasoned software engineer with a proven track record of crafting innovative solutions to complex problems. With a keen eye for detail and a knack for writing efficient, maintainable code, I turn ideas into functional software. As for my technical experience, I have worked on code bases that deal with C, Javascript, and NodeJS. I have worked with many of the AWS Services and fundamentally understand how they work and how to use them properly. I have scaled a service with over a million users. I’m passionate about helping software engineers learn challenging techniques and make them practical for everyday use. Prior to getting into software development, I worked as an economist with the Federal Reserve. In my personal life, I enjoy soccer and being around people. In my spare time, I also volunteer on a suicide prevention hotline and am honored and humbled to be able to help people struggling with crisis who share their feelings. StyleSeat's mission is to make personal style truly effortless. At StyleSeat I was the Scrum Master of a large team and shepherded five major projects-- all on time and within scope. One of the major things that I worked on was improving the performance of StyleSeat's implementation of Segment. I optimized StyleSeat's usage of Celery in Python for concurrency. This improved the performance of the whole application-- customers could get their MFA codes, booking confirmations, and appointment updates faster. For the whole organization, I led company wide meetings on improving the backend codebase and company culture. To overcome the constraints of remote work, I facilitated the creation of new avenues for junior engineers to get mentored. TechStack: Django/Python/Celery/React/SQL ### Software Engineer (Contract) @ Bennu Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco Bay Area Bennu is a tool that helps employees track their accomplishments. Bennu's mission is to transform performance management into a lightweight, incremental cycle that enables employees to continuously grow. At Bennu, I improved the performance of the entire frontend, by improving the way each major page cached, fetched, updated server state. Tech Stack: Postgres/SQLAlchemy/Flask/ReactJS/React Query ### Software Engineer (Contract) @ Attune Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco, California, United States Attune's tools allow financial institutions to help their customers make sense of their finances. Attune's mission is to help visionary organizations optimize for the financial health of their stakeholders. One of the major things that I did for Attune was write all the documentation for the full code base-- frontend, backend and UX design. I feel a lot of information is lost if it is not well documented and enjoyable to read. I helped train a new team of engineers to take charge of the flagship product. Tech Stack: ReactJS/GCP/Firestore/NodeJS/Apache Beam ### Software Engineer (Contract) @ Volley Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area Volley is the number one voice game company on Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Volley's mission is to make everyday life a little more entertaining. At Volley I redesigned the core AWS DynamoDB data model with 1.5 million users. I also created a speech recognition error reduction system for the game Song Quiz (the number one game on Alexa) leading to a smoother, error free user experience. Tech Stack: NodeJS/AWS DynamoDB/Javascript ### Teaching Assistant @ University of Toronto Jan 2008 – Jan 2009 | Toronto, Canada Area I taught recitation for a highly mathematical, difficult Game Theory course. I got students to understand math and economic concepts using fun abstractions to make the material memorable and meaningful. Student retention improved by up to a third compared to previous years. You can see some of my students' comments below. ### Research Associate @ Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco Jan 2002 – Jan 2004 | San Francisco At the Federal Reserve, I conducted statistical research using the same statistical tools that underpin Machine Learning today.
