# Saurabh Anand > Software Dev Engineer - 2 at AWS Redshift (AWS) | Over a decade (10+) years of work experience in Distributed Systems | 4.5+ yrs at Amazon Redshift(C++/C,Python,Database Internals) Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/saurabhanand I’ve spent over a decade diving deep into the world of software development, where I’ve had the chance to work on exciting projects. Currently at AWS Redshift, I focus on building robust storage engines using C++ and C. It’s been an incredible journey—one that has allowed me to contribute to large-scale distributed systems while honing my skills in analytical databases. I love tackling complex problems head-on and finding elegant solutions that make a real difference. Before my time at AWS, I had the opportunity to develop microservices and web services for four years. One of my proudest moments was architecting the first in-house “Pricing Engine” platform for J.C. Penney from scratch. This project not only challenged my technical abilities but also taught me how to collaborate effectively with diverse teams to deliver impactful results. During my brief stint as an intern at Visa, I participated in a hackathon where we created a mobile app for contactless payments that supported around 3 million small businesses during the pandemic. It was rewarding to see how technology can help communities thrive even in tough times. I’m also passionate about innovation beyond my day job; I once worked on a Gesture Recognition System that’s now used in shopping malls for interactive games! These experiences have shaped my approach to problem-solving—always looking for creative ways to leverage technology for better user experiences. When I'm not coding or brainstorming new ideas, you might find me exploring tech meetups or volunteering at local coding boot camps with next generation of developers. If you’re interested in collaborating on innovative projects, feel free to reach out. Used Near Field Communication (NFC) and Visa token service along with React Native and SpringBoot. • Developed a dashboard using Vue.js (UI) and Golang Gorilla Mux framework (REST services) for the service discovery of Visa services. • Proposed a solution to reduce cash usage by 24% in the US by combining Visa merchant service and customer loyalty program for small merchants and customers. ### Senior Software Engineer-1 @ JCPenney Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Bengaluru Area, India ### Software Engineer @ JCPenney Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | Bengaluru Area, India • Architected and developed the first in-house “Pricing Engine” platform for J.C. Penney from scratch with major features such as real-time pricing, competitive pricing. Used Spring Boot, Spring MVC for microservices, Hazelcast (caching). • Productionized the first data streaming application called Pricing Notification System for my team to receive the real-time price updates using AWS Kinesis and Kafka. Used ZooKeeper for Kafka Cluster management. Wrote Docker file to host the application over AWS. • Worked on redesigning J.C. Penney’s “Promotion & Coupon” backend system architecture by migrating it to NoSQL Neo4j DB and PostgreSQL from the existing Oracle DB. The new Promotion & Coupon system increased the order conversion by almost 4 percent. • Supervised the different cross-functional teams to reduce the post-production defects and defect turnaround time. • Scaled Big Data applications using Apache Spark and Cassandra reducing the data processing time for approx. 10 million records from 4 hours to 25 minutes. ### Software Engineer @ Snapdeal Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 Technologies: Java, Spring MVC, SpringBoot, Elastic Search, Aerospike, Cassandra, MongoDB 1) Solely owned Search QnA feature for a product built using Elasticsearch. The search feature supports fuzzy and natural language search. Employed Aggregations, Stemming in Elasticsearch. 2) Redesigned the existing Review and Rating (RnR) and QnA platform that supported submission and moderation of reviews, ratings and QnA for a product. Made use of Spring, Java, Cassandra, MongoDB and Redis (caching). 3) Worked on various projects involving Android and their back end integration like project selfie(Take a selfie with the product you buy from Snapdeal and upload on Snapdeal). This feature is live on Snapdeal APP. 4) Worked on the QnA moderation console dashboard which deals with a large set of questions and answers submitted by the customers. Added features such as finding Question and Answer similar to previously submitted questions and answers using Elastic Search so that per day the moderation rate of these QnA can be improved. ### Intern @ Intugine Technologies Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Bangalore Worked as an Intern and built Gesture Recognition System with a team of 3 people using Java, Android, Microprocessor, OpenCV. This product is being used in Malls and other play areas for playing games like bowling, racing etc using human gestures. ## Education ### Master's degree in Computer Science University of Florida ### B.E in Information Science RV College Of Engineering ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/saurabhanand1993 - Website: https://github.com/anand-saurabh - Website: https://anand-saurabh.github.io/portfoliowebsite/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/saurabhanand JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/saurabhanand/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
