The SOAR test is taken by many students entering the university, to determine their placement into, and requirements for, several of the university's core-mandated courses. These test results, along with writing samples from students entering the University of Detroit Mercy, help determine said students' placement into core-curriculum-mandated writing classes. The results of the anonymous students' SOAR tests will soon be compared to the final grades which they received for the respective writing classes in which they were placed. The results of this analysis are likewise soon to be graphically represented to provide a clear view as to the effectiveness of SOAR testing in the University of Detroit Mercy's writing class placement process.
