# Selim Hassairi > Software Engineer @ Meta | Oculus Location: United States, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/selim Software Engineer working on shaping the latest VR device experiences. Former student at Dartmouth and Colby College with majors in Computer Science and Engineering. My interests lie in the fields of Software Engineering, AR/VR, AI, Autonomous Systems and Computer Vision. I first joined Facebook in San Francisco for the summer of 2021 on their FORT team working on a Researcher API that links academic researchers to Facebook public data. In the summer of 2020, I worked at Google on their Google Cloud division in Seattle, working on Serverless Technologies. I have spent the summer of 2019 at Sea Machines Robotics, in Boston, working on computer vision algorithms used to make vessels autonomous and have interned at a data science-driven real estate startup in NYC over the winter 2019 term. Above everything, I value the meaning and impact of my job and company on the world the most. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Meta Jan 2022 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States Building Oculus' latest VR headsets. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Facebook Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Menlo Park, California, United States Facebook Research - FORT Team ### Full Stack Developer and Founder @ Envol Flights Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 Group-Flight Booking Web-App - envol-flights.surge.sh • Imagined the end-product, designed the architecture and led a team of 6 web devs to build a final prototype (2 months) and continued on my own to deliver a final product (10 months) • Built the final product: backend API (node.js), database (mongoDB), front-end design (react, redux), flights intersection algorithm, caching to improve look-up times, UX, CI, testing (mocha) ### Software Engineering Intern @ Google Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Seattle, Washington, United States Google Cloud - Serverless - Knative • Brought MongoDB support to Knative, a Kubernetes-based platform to deploy and manage modern serverless workloads • Built a Kubernetes controller and reconciler, tested code efficiently, and reliably contributed to a complex large scale open-source project • Designed diagrams and documentation about Knative Sources that are now used as part of the training/ramp-up of new comers ### Computer Vision Intern @ Sea Machines Robotics Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Greater Boston Area • Implemented, trained and tested new network model for the Perception team to recognize other vessels through on-boat cameras • Designed a game-changer setting to recognize vessels better that dramatically increased performance • Divided image processing times by 8 using multi-processing and created new dataset for training and testing models ### Computer Science Teacher Assistant, Innovation Lab Tutor, Advanced French Tutor @ Colby College Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Waterville, Maine Colby Computer Science Department Classes TAed : Computational Thinking, Introduction to Smart Systems • Help Computer Science students with their weekly lab along with Professors Bruce Maxwell and Caitrin Eaton • Learn how to quickly understand, debug and fix code that I have not written myself • Answer Python, Computer Science, lab-oriented, and technical questions and help students learn from my explanations Miller Library - Innovation Laboratory Tutor • Help students use the recently opened Innovation Lab’s high-end facilities such as Ultimaker 3 3D printers, a Laser Cutting machine and an HTC VIVE Virtual Reality headset for projects, fun, or to learn Colby French Department - 200 and 300 level Classes • Help French Literature students practice for their exam, correct their essays/poems, and teach pronunciation on a weekly basis ### Computer Science Research Assistant @ Colby College Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Waterville, ME "Autonomous Ad Hoc Drone Network Simulation" under the supervision of Prof. Ying Li. Summer 2018 • Developed movement algorithms and integrated communication models in an object-oriented manner • Designed an Ad-hoc communication network (by making the drones send packages to each other) to find how to best cover a target area • Developed a strategy to make the drones that run out of battery come back to a garage to recharge while sustaining a stable network Fall 2018 • Assembled drones from DJI kits and set up NAVIO2+RPi environment • Flight-tested the drones before controlling them from computer • Set-up ROS and explored relevant rostopics to implement the initial network project ### Computer Science and Astrophysics Research Scientist @ Colby College Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Waterville, ME "Connecting Black Hole Growth and Galaxy Mergers in the Early Universe" under supervision of Professor Dale Kocevski Colby Department of Physics and Astronomy - Astrophysics Research Laboratory • Built an Artificial Neural Network using TensorFlow to predict the morphologies of galaxies and their life-stage with an accuracy of 92% • Coded RandomForest and KNeighbor Machine Learning algorithms on Python using the Sci-kit library with an accuracy of 91% • Manipulated and graphed data from the CANDELS survey carried out by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope for our research using IDL and Python (pandas, seaborn) to determine coefficients of correlation and decide which features to use to train the classifiers • Upcoming astrophysics research papers will use my algorithms to analyze NASA’s new James Webb Space Telescope’s data ### Data Science Intern @ Rubik, Inc. Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Greater New York City Area Rubik is a data platform web service for Real Estate investors that leverages Machine Learning to provide financial data on all single family homes. • Built a model that predicts whether a house needs repairs or not with 88% accuracy in less than a week from scratch • Improved accuracy of rent price prediction (10% to 6% error) by parsing house descriptions and selecting keywords to create new metrics • Found features that increase properties’ worth that are now used by Rubik to advice its client investors looking into house renovation • Analyzed datasets using Pearson, Spearman and Mutual Info Correlations to determine relevance of new metrics for Boosted Tree ### Data Science and Analytics Intern @ Gifford's Famous Ice Cream Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 • Created a database of the company’s items in 24 retail stores using SQL and analyzed the data to answer questions from the Dir. of Sales • Generated relevant graphs that allowed the company to understand its standing on the market and make decisions consequently • Presented my insights and graphs to the CEO, VP of Sales and 7 other company high-executives ### Astrophysics Research Scientist @ Yale University Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | New Haven, CT Yale Astronomy Departement - Leitner Family Observatory • Pioneering participant of the Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics (YSPA), culminating with a presentation to the Yale Astro.
