Tech: Scala, Mysql, Redis, Finagle, VertX, RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch. Chat Systems: A chat message service that supports dynamic content-types and interactions (ala Slack) and scaled independently of the number of chatrooms. General Purpose Object Store: To iterate quickly on product, built a general purpose object store that scales independently of the object attributes or relationships. Publish Subscribe System: Auth, chat and the general object store are able to relay events so web, iOS and Android clients can directly subscribe for changes to topics they are authorized to listen on. Social Login: For our monetization efforts, to allow partners to connect to other advertising sites, built social login (OAuth client), OAuth service and authorization facilities. ### TLM / Sr Software Engineer @ Twitter Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 Notifications Infrastructure I worked on maintaining Twitter's notifications infrastructure delivers SMS, Push and Email. I worked on reducing the cost of running this infra from an estimated 0.6M per quarter to about 0.2M per quarter by: (a) moving the machines from static hosts to cloud provisioned instances (on mesos/aurora) (b) rewriting the core notifications processing loop on kestrel queues to be reactive I also excised a complex bug-prone system for rate limiting which notifications should be processed at what rate. Instead I put in source-level throttling which was much simpler, easier to adjust and unsurprising in behavior. I implemented an audit tracing system for individual notifications so customer support could track cases of notifications non-delivery, duplicate-delivery etc., or other cases that follow any pattern under investigation. I implemented portions of the write time aggregation systems for notifications timeline as viewed within the app or web using summingbird. Tech: Scala, Java, Pants, Finagle Engineering Effectiveness Built Twitter's standard deployment schemes for deploying to mesos/aurora. Provided standard deployment patterns from jenkins and prebuilt artifacts and allowed deploy-time hooks. Tech: Python, Pants Observability Infrastructure I maintained portions of Twitter's observability that allows micro-services to expose metrics that can get collected and stored so that engineers can get a deeper understanding of their service performance and latency characteristics. It allowed setup of automatic alerts to detect when things go wrong (typically deviation from throughput or latency characteristics). I worked on stabilizing the performance of our alerting infrastructure and ensuring that it, with reliable latency characteristics, could processes hundreds of millions of data points every minute to evaluate ~100K rules to determine if there was an issue with any of our roughly 500 services (at that time). Tech: Scala, Pants, Finagle ### Principal Software Engineer @ Komli Media Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 Delivered the architecture for Komli's audience targetting platform. The audience targeting platform had a high performant pixel service that partners could hook onto their websites. It had the pixel processing pipeline on hadoop as well as the analytics processes and UI to allow audience data to be bid and purchased in real-time by ad-scheduling companies. Implemented parts of this system as a micro-services architecture using zookeeper for service coordination and async IO to deliver high performance with few machines. In addition to this system, I also worked on the analytics for Komli's ad-analytics systems. Technologies used: Java, C++, Gradle ### Sr Software / Frontend Engineer @ Nokia Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 Worked on Nokia gate5's maps search infrastructure with setting up the test automation systems. ### Engineering Manager @ Nokia Jan 2009 – Jan 2010 Responsible for Delivering the next generation of Workflow Systems for NSN for Project Planning, Sales stages, Costing, Resource Allocation, Competency Analysis and Remote Delivery. Currently an initial release of Project Planning, Sales Stages and Costing has already been delivered. I manage a distributed team with work locations in London, Delhi, Cherkassy (Ukraine), Poland and Brazil. ### Technical Architect/Producer @ CBS Interactive Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 Delivered the next generation Media CMS for CNET. This CMS platform allows editors to define new content modules and layouts for editorial content, opinions, blog posts, videos, podcasts etc., for the front-door of ZDNET and BNET without first requesting a database design to incorporate their changes. This also allows new sites to be launched quickly using feeds generated off the CMS. Engineering effort involved Java, Python, MySQL, DHTML, DOM manipulations, Object-Oriented Javascript, Ajax/Ajaj, YUI and CSS. ### Software Engineer/Architect @ Thomson Reuters Corporation Jan 2008 – Jan 2008 Delivered two important releases of the next generation of web messaging products by Thomson Reuters and integrated it with the trading solutions platform. I was actively involved with developing the architecture for the transport, messaging and the UI layers. Designed the web messaging system after a complete study of Reuters existing desktop applications for collaboration and messaging. Created an architecture that will allow the flexibility of early integration with trading platforms at Thomson Reuters so that it can make an immediate impact in the lives of traders and brokers – while we continue to add features to the product. Engineering effort was done in Javascript, HTML, CSS using many facilities from the Dojo UI library and its widget framework – dijit. Ajax and JSON are used in the transport layer. ### Senior Web Producer, Blogs Platform @ CNET Networks Jan 2007 – Jan 2008 Delivered a platform for adding insights and editorial content on the web-doors of ZDNET, BNET, TechRepublic. This was used for the latest ZDNET launch in March 2008. The platform involved a rich user interface for adding structured modules - including inline editing and auto-fill. Most of the work involved was done using Javascript, HTML, CSS and Velocity (VTL) Improve the quality of the CNET web experience using modules such as - dynamic toolbar that can be plugged into any CNET property, dynamic carousels that pull in data as required, voting modules and dynamic info modules that allow interaction within the page without page-refresh etc., thus reducing page load time and page-weight and deliver a richer web experience. Used DHTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP to achieve this. ### Software Engineer, Mobile Monetization @ Yahoo! Inc Jan 2007 – Jan 2007 Delivered a web-based mobile ad creation tool.
