As both a course instructor and TA, I lead weekly lectures, grade assignments, and provide ongoing feedback on student progression. The course introduces students to core programming concepts using an object-oriented language, focusing on topics such as the software life-cycle, procedural vs. object-oriented programming, IDE and debugging practices, documentation, and coding conventions in Python. Students also explore essential data types, basic data structures and algorithms, control structures, file I/O, functions, error handling, and testing. In addition to teaching, I collaborate closely with other instructors, attending weekly meetings to reflect on lecture effectiveness, share insights, and discuss improvements to curriculum design and teaching methods. My leadership skills extend beyond the classroom, as I consistently guide students and contribute to enhancing the overall educational experience. ### Data Scientist Intern @ UC Davis Biotechnology Program Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | Davis, California, United States • Collaborated with PhD students and professors to conduct research on the environmental impact on strawberry phasing errors. Analyzed an extensive dataset comprising thousands of strawberry samples with over 30K gene biomarkers, 400+ environmental variables (including soil, water, sunlight, and humidity), and pedigree mapping. • Quickly learned over 3,000 lines of R code, incorporating essential packages such as dplyr, tidyxl, tidyr, and gmodels, to efficiently extract, manipulate, and transform data into formats compatible with Beagle Software for gene phase prediction. • Set up multiple versions of parameter files and initiated computing jobs on a Linux-based FARM data cluster to run different versions of Beagle Software. Ensured data quality and consistency throughout the research process. Communicated findings and insights effectively, presenting results to peers and experts in the field during regular progress meetings. ### Data Scientist/Lab researcher @ UC Davis Health Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | Davis, California, United States • Contributed to the development of a study on lipoproteins investigating the influence of diet and ethnicity on lipoprotein A levels within the human body working with a research team at UC Davis Genomics. • Conducted wet lab experiments, including SDS-Page gels and Western Blots, as part of rigorous data collection processes, ensuring data accuracy and reliability. Employed advanced statistical techniques, such as confidence intervals, multiple correction, and linear regression analysis, to identify patterns, establish correlations, and determine causation within the data. • Conducted analysis of results, interpreting data to form data driven conclusions. ### Data Analyst Intern @ Axis Community Health Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Pleasanton, California, United States • Collaborated with a Data Analyst team and medical staff to conduct experiments assessing the common outcomes of COVID-19 on newly admitted hospital patients. • Recorded patient data into Excel, including vital statistics such as blood pressure, heart rate, and O2 levels. and Utilized box and whisker charts to find the clustering of our data to enhance accuracy of experimental measurements. • Performed comprehensive data cleaning, reformatting our datasets, and providing refined data to the data analyst team for further analysis. Contributed to the analysis of experiment results by conducting linear and logistic regression models to assess pre- and post-COVID differences in heart rate. Conducted significance tests to ensure accuracy. ### Image analyst Intern @ UC Davis Health Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Davis, California, United States • Conducted a (AREDS study) study on age related macular degeneration where new treatment was being tested on 87 patients to explore early detection and prevention of the disease. Conducted study with head of optometry and medical students at UC Davis. • Designed a grading scale for the evaluation of patients' macular images by adapting and scaling previous research paper grading scales. This approach allowed for the establishment of proportional grades, facilitating meaningful comparisons between our experiments and other studies. • Analyzed the macular images of patients through grading scale done by all members of the team. The analysis required different areas of the eye to interpret and grade the intensity of the disease from 1-10. • Compared results to patients with age related macular degeneration and with patients given other medication to determine the effectiveness of the new drug. ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Computer Science Tufts University ### Cell biology/Statistics in Biostatistics University of California, Davis ### Biology/Biological Sciences in General West Valley College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/sina-k-782519167 - Portfolio: https://sina328.github.io/Resume-website/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/sinak JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/sinak/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
