# S. Levent Yilmaz > Staff Software Engineer Manager Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/sleventyilmaz C++ enthusiast. Generic, functional, OOP library designer and software architect. Technical team lead. Trainer. Backend engineer. Tools developer. Parallel programmer. Multi-tasker (a poor one, but still...). Experience: 9 years in software industry at MathWorks and 4 years in academia as a research professor at University of Pittsburgh. Skills: Architecture, C++, simulation, massive monolithic code bases, refactoring, training, team building and management. At MathWorks, I work on foundation relied upon by 100s of feature developers and engineers. I introduced an abstraction based on generalized hierarchical graphs, which allowed us to fuse together in a unified framework thus-far unrelated pieces of a complex engine code. I worked on rearchitecting the structure and capabilities of a 10M line 20+ year old and very actively developed C++ source code, and training engineers on the new framework. I built a small team of very talented engineers to work on this and other challenging areas. At Pitt, I worked in the field of Numerical Turbulent Combustion Modeling: simulating, visualizing, and analyzing fast flowing sub/super-sonic jet of combusting gases. I authored new modules, driver, and simulator routines in C++ that use hybrid parallelization with message passing (via MPI) and multi-threading (via OpenMP), and some very naive CUDA. Worked on one of a kind load balancing technique, that enabled us to max-out CPU power of 25,000 simultaneous CPU cores (see papers). Also at Pitt, as a Research Professor in HPC, wore a few practical hats: Teaching students how to program parallel scientific software, administering HPC clusters' hardware, software, even support forums and their front/backends, authoring simulators and visualization software with collaborators from a wide range of academic fields in Chemistry, Physics, Public Health, Computer Science, Engineering. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer Manager @ Google DeepMind Jan 2025 – Present | Mountain View, California, United States ### Software Engineer @ Google DeepMind Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Mountain View, California, United States ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2022 – Present | Mountain View, California, United States ### Consulting Software Engineer @ MathWorks Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Boston, Massachusetts, United States Set direction to, propose and realize critical foundational changes for the Simulink Engine: a suite of tools used in modelling, simulating, and deploying complex multi-domain systems. ### Senior Technical Team Lead @ MathWorks Jan 2019 – Jan 2022 | Boston, Massachusetts, United States Manage a team of engineers responsible for maintenance, large scale refactoring, and developing supporting tools for the foundation of Simulink Engine.
