# Sophie Dukes > Industrial Designer | Manufacturing & Prototyping | Design → Manufacturing → Market Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/sophiedukes I'm an industrial designer who can't stop making things. Whether it's laser cutting custom projects at my dining table, 3D printing prototypes at midnight, or building a LEGO costume for Halloween (yes, really), I'm happiest when I'm figuring out how to take an idea from concept to reality. My notes app is filled with project ideas waiting to be built, and my workspace is equal parts design studio and mini fabrication lab. What I do: I bridge the gap between design intent and manufactured reality. I've managed product development for 50+ lighting collections at RH, documented production processes for 300+ desktop laser cutters at a hardware startup, and designed everything from muon detector housings to e-commerce interfaces. I'm equally comfortable reviewing engineering drawings with vendors, troubleshooting assembly issues on the manufacturing floor, or prototyping new concepts with CAD and power tools. What drives me: I'm obsessed with how products actually get made and brought to market. I listen to How I Built This and other startup podcasts religiously because I want to understand not just good design, but the messy, scrappy reality of building companies and shipping products. I've worked with startup founders who taught me that speed, resourcefulness, and clear communication matter just as much as perfect CAD models. What I bring: A manufacturing mindset paired with design thinking. I don't just design products. I document processes, establish quality standards, coordinate suppliers, and make sure things actually ship on time. I've worked hands-on in production environments, so I know the difference between a beautiful rendering and a part that can actually be manufactured at scale. What I'm looking for: Opportunities to work with teams who value both craft and execution, where good design meets manufacturing reality, and where I can apply my maker mentality to help bring thoughtful products to market. Tools I use: SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Laser Cutters, 3D Printers, PLM systems, and whatever else is in the shop Currently: Freelancing with startups, building things, and exploring what's next Let's connect if you're working on products that matter, especially in furniture, household goods, or consumer electronics. ## Work Experience ### Industrial Designer @ Unbox Product Design Jan 2026 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States ### Freelance App/Web Designer @ Sophie Dukes Jan 2025 – Jan 2026 | San Francisco Bay Area • Collaborating with startups to design intuitive products, brands, and digital experiences ### Assistant in Product Development, Lighting @ RH Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Corte Madera, California, United States ### Customer Experience Associate @ RH Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Corte Madera, California, United States ### Sales Associate @ Reformation Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 | San Francisco, California, United States ### Industrial Designer @ Rendyr Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | Blacksburg, Virginia, United States ### Designer @ Rendyr Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 ### CAD and Design Intern @ Fermilab Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 ### Industrial Design Intern @ University of Virginia Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Charlottesville, Virginia, United States ### Sales Associate @ J Crew Retail Store Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Charlottesville, Virginia Area ## Education ### Industrial Design Virginia Tech Jan 2017 – Jan 2023 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sophie-dukes - Website: sophiedukes.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/sophiedukes JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/sophiedukes/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-07
