# Stephen Chen > Software Engineer at Stripe Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/stephenchen ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Stripe Jan 2020 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States ### CTO, Head of Product @ Parting Jan 2017 – Jan 2020 I co-founded Parting in 2017 with the goal of creating the best deathcare experience for professionals and families. Our team participated in both the NFX accelerator program in Palo Alto, and the Mucker Labs accelerator program in Los Angeles. Over the past 3 years, we built a company supporting 10 employees from $0 to $600k ARR with over 250 funeral business accounts and over 1000 account users. As CTO, I built the SaaS product from the ground up, with an application stack of Ruby on Rails, React, Stimulus.js, MySQL, etc. The software encompasses everything from e-commerce (over $7.5M processed) to CRM and case management workflows. I built account onboarding, internal administration and support tools, implemented test coverage, and was responsible for application deployment and infrastructure as well. I also took over Head of Product responsibilities in 2019 and led initiatives to create a strong remote-first culture, and to build a product development process centered on customer development and intentional work (Shape Up). I had ownership over product team hiring and product roadmap development. ### Software Engineer @ Teespring Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | San Francisco Bay Area At Teespring I worked on engineering teams spanning both sides of the marketplace. Some core contributions include developing payment and order processing, implementing a shopping cart, and supporting affiliate rev share. For the seller team, I helped improve the seller experience by building both frontend and backend for a custom reporting dashboard. On the buyer team, I helped establish Teespring as a buying destination and marketplace with the introduction of category pages, improved search, stores for content creators, and auto-generated content. During my time at Teespring, I mentored multiple interns and contributed to the engineering culture through "TED" talks, code reviews, and leading candidate interviews. ### Software Engineer @ Fundly Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 Fundly was my first experience working full stack on a Ruby on Rails web application, as well as my first startup job. I had previously worked as a full stack developer at a web agency in Los Angeles on the ASP.Net stack. At Fundly, with a small product team, I closely collaborated with product and design to collect, analyze, and optimize signup and donation funnel conversion. Some of the product work I contributed to included building an email preview tool, integrating with Mailchimp, rendering Dashboard metrics/reports, deploying an A/B test framework, and creating on-boarding wizards and guides using Backbone.js. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science in Computer Science UCLA Jan 2006 – Jan 2010 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/stephen-chen-01551533 --- Source: https://flows.cv/stephenchen JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/stephenchen/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
