# STEPHEN WILLE > Lead Software Engineer with a focus on engineering excellence Location: Portland, Oregon, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/stephenwille Throughout my career I’ve had the privilege to work with people and teams who had excellent engineering practices which allowed me to hone my own craft. However, experience has shown that this was not the norm in the industry. Although hired for my software craftsmanship skills to lead development of an application, I soon discovered that the other teams didn’t know how much more stable and efficient engineering could really be. So over my time there, I helped them adopt modern testing practices, supported a continuous delivery release pipeline, introduced style guides, Domain Driven Design, and other engineering improvements. The teams began to experience a better work environment. and were able to produce features for customers faster and cheaper. My mission is to leverage my skills as a software craftsman to help companies improve their engineering practices to deliver their software faster, cheaper, and with better quality. ## Work Experience ### Senior Full Stack Cloud Engineer @ Hyatt Jan 2024 – Present | Chicago, Illinois, United States * React/Typescript * Tanstack Query * Established team Ways of Working doc to standardize teams practices * Drafted team proposal for AWS account ownership to streamline AWS resources * Crafted team style guide for cleaner code * Introduced the team to the Testing pyramid * Built out Smoke and e2e test suites * Built AWS Lambdas service for DynamoDB * Built and fixed pipelines, including a long standing cert bug ### Senior Software Engineer @ The Climate Corporation Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 | United States Led the effort to stabilize the pipelines by scheduling deployments and upgrading dependencies increasing deployments by 100% • Conducted a comprehensive assessment of micro service architecture, documenting critical issues and proposing solutions that would lead to a 100% decrease in system downtime and a 50% improvement in overall system stability • Lead the training for Domain Driven Design principles within the organization • Led the initiative to define and document design patterns, style guides, and best practices ### Team Lead - The Climate Corporation @ KellyMitchell Group Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Seattle, Washington, United States Architected a greenfield React with hooks, frontend app, that empowered support departments to resolve issues, resulting in a 50-100% reduction in time-to-resolution. • Established testing patterns and practices improving stability • Built Gitlab pipelines to shortening delivery times to Production • Built a shared React library component utilizing recursion to search in-memory datasets increasing performance • Developed and launched a robust GraphQL server utilizing Apollo federated Gateway which was writing in Typescript and Node,, allowing faster frontend development. ### Senior Software Engineer @ ASG Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Bellevue WA Led the modernization effort of a legacy monolithic Java app using Angular and AWS. • Built out the automation infrastructure on AWS to improve security and delivery • Introduced the team to the testing pyramid, Agile methodologies, Git version control, and other industry best practices • Setup migrations with Flyway DB to facilitate evolving architecture • Introduced the team to the testing pyramid, Agile, Git, and several other modern engineering processes. ### Software Engineer @ DefinedCrowd Corp.
