# Sunshine Chong > Software Engineer 2 @ Microsoft | CS Masters @ UC Davis '22 | RTC Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/sunshine I graduated from a CS Master’s program at UC Davis in Spring 2022. Previously, I had completed a B.F.A degree in Painting from California College of the Arts, in which 85% of my tuition was paid for by a scholarship. While studying for my B.F.A, I was also very interested in software development so I was taking CS classes on top of my full workload. Currently I work as a Software Engineer for Microsoft M365 Copilot. In summer of 2021, I collaborated with a team in Goldman Sachs under Consumer Wealth Management to design a new system architecture that will reduce overhead on their onboarding platform for high wealth individuals. I focused mainly on implementing secure websockets for clients to automatically receive the latest data on a specific profile page without manual refresh. During the school year, I was a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate CS courses at UC Davis as well as a graduate researcher analyzing political bias in social media through data scraping and machine learning. In 2019, I did a research internship in analyzing the AI in recommendation systems at USC Information Sciences Institute and published a research paper on my findings in the IEEE Big Data Conference. In regards to what I look for in a company, I value transparency and communication between teams. I enjoy collaborating with others so those values are very important to me. Having the resources to develop and improve my technical skills is also important as I want to continuously learn so I can grow as a software engineer. Skills: React, Typescript, Python, HTML, CSS, Git, GitHub, Object Oriented Programming, Unix/Linux, SQL, APIs ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer 2 @ Microsoft Jan 2024 – Present | Redmond, Washington, United States • Implemented Copilot App chat UX for credits system that was shipped to consumers on Oct 2024 in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia for Word, PPT, Excel and Onenote on multiple platforms, exposing Copilot to an additional ~5.5 million users through a credit system that refreshes every month through an M365 Personal/Family subscription. Credits system is fully released worldwide as of Jan 2025 to consumers and Copilot is now available to ~70 million users with a subscription. • Engineered core UX experience to incorporate Copilot handoff into search box with Copilot zero term suggestions and user queries that will auto execute in Copilot in Word and PPT web when clicked or prompted. Addition of this new entry point increased Copilot engagement by about 14%. • Increased Copilot engagement by rolling out insert button to 100% production in Word Copilot: 89% increase on web and 20% increase on win32. Just in the month of April 2025, total number of clicks had increased by 8x, amounting to over 400,000 cumulative clicks to-date. • Enhanced insert feature to be "smart" for Word during FHL hackathon and the demo was selected among the top 3 demos to showcase during Office Product Group demo day. Built smart insert and released to production due to its efficiency for extracting relevant info for document insertion and ignoring filler content. • Created UX in Word Copilot that allows users to edit bot responses in a simple, embedded editor within the chat pane for them to revise before copying or inserting the response into the document. Collaborated with other engineers, designers and PMs when polishing the UI/UX based on frequent feedback. ### Software Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | Redmond, Washington, United States • Developed UI/UX for M365 Copilot debug tool using React and Typescript during Microsoft's FHL hackathon.
