# Tai Rodrig > Software Engineer Location: Santa Barbara, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/tai Software engineer with over a decade of expertise in developing innovative software solutions across diverse fields, including visualization, robotics, and surgical navigation systems. Proficient in C++, JavaScript, Python, and technologies such as Linux, OpenGL, and ROS, I specialize in creating immersive visual experiences, advancing robotic technologies, and enhancing medical applications. I value work that is interesting and impactful. My focus on optimization, performance, and user experience drives me to deliver high-quality work. I thrive in dynamic, collaborative environments and look forward to bringing my expertise and passion to our next project. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ Pearly Jan 2024 – Present | Santa Barbara, California ### Co Founder / Software Engineer @ Udotai Jan 2015 – Present | Santa Barbara, California UDOTAI is a math-art visualization startup. We write software for live performances and art installations. We also use the software to teach math through art in classes and workshops. We develop code in C++, OpenGL, JavaScript, WebGL, Arduino, Python We create unique visual experiences using vertex buffers, textures, shaders, transformations, and homography We install and set up art installations and events. We calibrate projectors, sensors and controllers, create the visuals, and set up projection mapping ### Senior Software Engineer @ Productive Robotics, Inc. Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | Carpinteria, California Productive Robotics designs and manufactures 7 DOF (degrees of freedom) robotic arms. While working here I rewrote the front end controller (from Android to web app), built out a server for managing and guiding workers through the robot assembly process, integrated 3rd party hardware such as welders, worked on path planning and computer vision. ### Software Engineer II @ TrueVision 3D Surgical Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Goleta, California 3D augmented reality for surgical applications. I rewrote the 3D (stereoscopic) ray-marching engine in CUDA, wrote many new features for surgical navigation and planning, and improved on existing features. Due to the delicate nature of medical applications, we focused significantly on optimization for both accuracy and performance. ### Software Engineer @ AppFolio Inc. Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Goleta, California At Appfolio I worked as a Full Stack software engineer on a small Agile team within a larger engineering college. Gained experience with: - Agile methodologies and workflows - Ruby, Ruby on Rails, CSS, and Javascript - Test Driven Development Worked on a cross-functional team on projects including: - Development of web components to promote consistency and to promote DRY throughout the engineering department - Converted webpages to be functional on mobile and all modern browsers - A new, more beautiful and intuitive experience for tenants, from idea to deployment - Dashboard with lazily-loaded SQL query data for decreased loading times, allows sorting with custom queries - Squashed bugs and fixed 'flakey tests' ### Software Engineering Intern @ Mission Street Manufacturing Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | Santa Barbara, California I joined Mission Street Manufacturing as a summer intern. We were a small startup, all living in the same house for the summer, and I was one of 4 developers. Our goal was to develop a 3d printer that was kid-friendly. The software challenges were to develop Android and iOS apps for kids to design 3d models easily, quickly and intuitively. The apps would then stream the 3d point cloud information to a server which triangulated the models, sliced them to produce GCode (CNC machine instructions) and sent them down to a Raspberry Pi, which sent the instructions to the 3d printer. * Developed and tested mobile apps written in Java, Objective-C and OpenGL. * Wrote python code for the flask server. Implemented computational geometry algorithms * Manipulated GCode for 3d printing optimization * Installed and configured software on Raspberry Pi * Assisted with brainstorming, assembly of 3d printers, and buying food from the farmer's market ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Science UC Santa Barbara Jan 2011 – Jan 2014 ### Lexington High School Jan 2006 – Jan 2010 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/tai-rodrig-376a8a87 --- Source: https://flows.cv/tai JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/tai/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
