# Tamel Nash > Software Engineer Location: Jersey City, New Jersey, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/tamel I'm constantly taking my knowledge in software engineering to the next level. Every new role I've taken has added a new technology or language to my skill set. This is supported by a consistent desire to step out of my comfort zone and learn every day. It might also be due in part to the millennial attention span I keep hearing about. My love for things outside of software development include music production, pizza, karaoke, pragmatics, philosophy, board games, lasagna, visual design and many more equally disjointed interests. But alas, the things I get to do most often is hang out with friends and play video games. I'm always open to a position that will stimulate me mentally while affording me the time to experience these things more. Feel free to contact me if you're interested in helping me expand the list of tech I'm familiar with or think it's time to evolve from being a jack of all trades with a new role. I've always been a team success over individual success type of person. Sometimes that involves doing things that people aren't as interested in and others it means rising to the occasion and stepping up to the plate. Keep that in mind when deciding to reach out. Ultimately, I feel like we all have our life purposes and innate aspirations. For me personally, I think about how I could contribute to ending homelessness and sorting out immigration in a way that works for both sides of the conversation. There are many great causes to support out there and these are just the ones I believe I can contribute to the most. ## Work Experience ### Lead Software Engineer @ NYSHEX Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | New York, New York, United States - Transitioned into a leadership role, ensuring a smooth knowledge transfer maintaining prior team momentum - Empowered new team to achieve new heights, delivering high-visibility and critical projects - Collaborated with stakeholders to clearly define project requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives - Bridged communication gaps between frontend and backend of team improving collaboration and on-time delivery - Facilitated key Agile Scrum ceremonies (daily standup, sprint planning, and retrospectives) to maintain project visibility and progress - Fostered inter-team collaboration by enabling team members to lend expertise to other projects - Maintained code quality across the organization by performing sanity checks on team member bug tickets and reviewing backend code for other teams - Conducted regular one-on-one meetings with team members to provide coaching, address concerns, and promote growth - Defined team goals and established a culture of continuous improvement ### Software Engineer @ NYSHEX Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | New York, New York, United States - Designed and implemented features from conception, collaborating with team leads and product managers to translate requirements into functional code - Developed and maintained over 10 RESTful API endpoints with unit and integration tests for robust functionality. - Streamlined testing new API endpoints through the creation of Python scripts - Updated database version control by authoring Flyway scripts for efficient Postgres migrations - Mentored and onboarded new backend engineers, fostering a supportive and collaborative team environment ### Engineer II @ American Express Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | New York, New York, United States - Developed tool that converted and migrated database entries without resulting in downtime for platform users. - Repaired and improved pipeline that maintained resource isolation by reducing latency and allowing preemptive isolation. - Tested and documented instructions for blue-green deployment feature. - Coded job that provided daily updates via email of the functions deployed to each development environment. ### Lead Developer @ BNY Mellon Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Greater New York City Area - Prepared transition from legacy monolithic service to newer service that utilized microservices. - Improved backend of legacy service to perform data retrieval for users with negligible performance hit. - Retooled aspects of frontend to display information in a more accommodating way for users. - Worked with development team ranging from 3-10 members. - Documented various engineering and support processes allowing new team members to be productive more efficiently. - Participated in disaster recovery exercises. - Assisted developers from other teams with making technical decisions by weighing pros and cons. - Negotiated tasks with offshore teams. - Supported legacy application with 12-hour availability window and requests ranging from general inquiries to downtime resolution. - Onboarded 10+client systems to use with services offered. - Mentored 2 new hires to the company on different teams enhancing their transition into the company. - Interviewed 5+ candidates on their behavioral fit while providing a positive experience and avoiding implicit bias ### Technology Leadership Program Associate @ BNY Mellon Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Greater New York City Area First Rotation (Developer Efficiency Group): - Produced Jenkins plugin that recorded and reported build information for analytics purposes with virtually no decline in performance. - Participated in code review prior to pushing to production. - Collaborated with team working on analytics tool to assist with progress on development and optimization. - Presented updates on progress and research on plugin. - Contributed to other projects on the team to break monotony and avoid burn out. - Answered support questions regarding the company's build and deployment stack.
