And we’ve all felt that ‘Oh! This is cool!’ feeling the first time we get to play with a well-designed application, so much so that some apps continue to stay relevant purely on their design and convenience of use. I’ve spent 16+ years in Frontend UI/UX, helping companies bridge the gap between awesome tech and their user’s needs and expectations. The Frontend is an exciting collection of user trends, design patterns, technology innovations, accessibility standards, and a perpetually evolving JavaScript ecosystem that I genuinely love taking apart, understanding, and weaving together to solve complex challenges. But it’s not just about an app's look and feel. No amount of pretty colors will save slow load times and inconsistent app behavior, and it’s rare that an app goes from great to bad in one update. QA, performance, error handling, internal dev tools, collaborative team dynamic, and empathy towards co-workers can all make or break a product over time, so these are aspects of a role that I take seriously. Check out my experience section for more interesting things I’ve worked on! ## Work Experience ### Staff Frontend UI/UX Engineer @ Octaura Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | New York, United States My primary goal was to design the Frontend React architecture and establish a modern Frontend tech stack that was; flexible, configurable, could scale to enterprise, and had small learning curves for the rest of my team. Worked with Product, Design, Sales, and Backend to scope, timeline, and deploy Octaura's first production in-house dashboard application, all in two months. Selected and established the foundation for a custom in-house component library, along with 20+ commonly used components. Mentored and guided our summer internship program. ### Principal Frontend UI/UX Engineer @ K Health Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | New York, United States I was brought in to architect and develop a custom component library. Must haves included W3C accessibility and compliance, external partner/client brand theming, and an intuitive developer implementation experience. I collaborated with product design, and the dev team to deliver over 40+ accessible and theme-able components, which when implemented increased feature development speed by 45% and eliminated 70% of duplicate components throughout our products. Developed and maintained an extensive component library documentation site. Source designs, examples, code recipes and more, so that developers of various skill sets across the company had guidance on the new system. Lead preparing and refactoring the Frontend code base to a NextJS architecture. Educated team in React best practices and cleaned up legacy React implementations across various products/features. ### Lead Frontend UI/UX Engineer @ Lucera Financial Infrastructures Jan 2019 – Jan 2022 | New York, United States From day one I was tasked with overhauling the entire company Frontend tech stack. Lucera didn’t want to look like another outdated financial service provider, and with an amazing team beside me I set off to architect and develop 3 separate high-speed fin-tech trading apps over the course of my 3 years. With React as the framework of choice, my core focus was on performance, unique and customizable UX for Traders, lean dependencies for small production bundles, and near-zero bugs since millions of real dollars are being traded in very real time. A constant cycle of communication between Product, Design, and Backend ensured that features worked as expected and all conceivable (and some inconceivable) edge case scenarios were considered and tested for. As the team grew, and component reuse started to cause duplication (and implementation divergence) throughout multiple projects, I took ownership of developing, releasing and maintaining a shared component library. Again, the focus was performance, reliability, customization, and now also developer experience. In between major projects I satisfied my curiosity by learning and owning CI/CD pipelines, helping with DB migrations, mentoring 2 juniors (all of whom have gone on to thrive in their careers) and more! ### Senior Dev / Lead FE Architect @ SAP Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Greater New York City Area My roles at SAP included architecting and developing FE data analytics applications (both client and internal), collaborating cross team to upgrade legacy Angular versions, contributing to existing company project features, and sharing best practices for Angular, RxJS, GraphQL, and React. My secondary role was to work with design teams to create and implement a company wide UI framework. The goal was to simplify development of new apps by providing company teams with modular, abstracted, and styled components which could be used 'out of the box' to create app UI's without worrying about functional details of each component. ### Senior UI/UX Front-End Developer @ Jirafe Jan 2013 – Jan 2017 | Greater New York City Area 𝘑𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘺 𝘚𝘈𝘗 * Hired to take over all of the FE UI/UX for an e-commerce analytics app, freeing up the lead dev to focus on architecture logic. My job was to give customers a clear picture of their business by transforming and displaying model data in the most intuitive UX possible. I worked closely with design and dev leads on app features, and when their positions opened up, took over both roles as the single source of all FE related tasks. ### Front End Developer @ SPIN Jan 2011 – Jan 2013 Responsible for developing all of the website templates/themes for a music blog/media app set up on a Drupal CMS. Worked on a number of custom Drupal features including asset uploading, content creation, and overall UX within the CMS to increase article publishing efficiency.
