# Thang Phu > Firmware Software Engineer / Firmware Manager @ Particle Measuring Systems | Master’s in Electrical Engineering Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/thangphu With over three years of experience at Particle Measuring Systems, I focus on firmware engineering and technical project management, contributing to the development of optical cleanroom monitoring products. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, I support the planning and delivery of multi-million-dollar projects. My expertise lies in embedded systems, wireless communication, and data analysis. My commitment to advancing IoT technologies aligns with my role in driving innovation in the field. I am dedicated to bridging technical and cross-functional collaboration to deliver impactful and efficient solutions using SCRUM methodologies. In my early career, I worked on bring up of WiFi mesh systems compliant with 802.11 standards and my graduate studies include development of RFID subsystems. I joined Particle Measuring Systems as Firmware Software Engineer. In early 2025, my responsibility has shifted toward Technical Project Management. I work closely with stakeholders (including Product Managers, Customers, and the Chief of Technology Officer) and a combination of Electrical, Mechanical, Test, and Firmware engineers to plan and deliver optical clean room monitoring product. One project which I am very proud of is my capstone project where I worked in a team of four to design, implement, and test a wearable, connected, location-based breathalyzer. The device is a neck wearable, powered by two coin batteries, and communicates with and Android phone application via Bluetooth. The device is 'location-based' because the user can input their favorite location to drink and a preset time into the Android application and if they remain idle at that location for over the preset time, the phone will remind them to take their Blood Alcohol Content (B.A.C) test using the breathalyzer. I was responsible for the firmware programming, Bluetooth communication interface, mechanical design, and updating the team's progress via our website. ## Work Experience ### Firmware Software Engineer / Firmware Manager @ Particle Measuring Systems Jan 2022 – Present | Boulder, Colorado, United States ### Principal Software Test Engineer @ Loose Cannon Systems, Inc. Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Seattle, Washington, United States ### Firmware Software Engineer 2 @ DISYS @ Facebook (Meta) Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Seattle, Washington, United States • Design and implement an automated audio firmware test module. Create audio test plan proposals for new projects and develop test cases as requested by peers. • Integrate audio tests written in C++ into a Javascript testing framework which supports continuous integration tests and data collection of the test runs. ### Research Development Engineer 3 / Software Development Engineer 3 @ Nokia Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | Greater Seattle Area • Collaborate with global teams in development of Nokia WiFi mesh network on B3, G3, and B1 access points. Uses pjlib framework library and io sockets to implement timers and event driven code. Supported successful B3 mesh system release on Amazon in December 2018 • Implement features in C++ linux platform to directly address the customer needs, troubleshoot WiFi connectivity via pcaps and logs, inspect wireless radio channels and RF data, and created REST API that enables users to interact with the system • Source hardware capabilities and formulate algorithm to compute link cost metrics, estimated throughputs, and implement fronthaul client steering algorithms compliant with IEEE 802.11kv standards • Evaluate delivery from chip vendors and communicate with management to recommend priorities and track the status of various subsystems of ongoing projects. Serve as liaison between teams and provide support to unblock teammates • Negotiate specifications, design and document development work tickets and test definitions, performs root cause analysis for critical issues and recommend fixes; occasionally provides technical training to international teams ### Graduate Research Assistant @ University of Washington Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Greater Seattle Area I was a research assistant for Reynolds Sensing and Communication Lab. My research focuses on implementing a secured, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag with Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Some parts of my research was used as a part of my Master's (MSEE) project. ### Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, and Math Tutor @ University of Washington Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 | 1307 NE 40th Street Seattle, WA 98105 Tutor peers with introductory physics coursework. Asks leading questions and help peers with their computer science assignments. Tutor topics related to introductory level physics, electrical engineering coursework, computer science, and mathematics (up to calculus). ### Radar / Systems Intern @ Honeywell Aerospace Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Redmond, Washington Develop a radar related software tool. Develop stand-alone radar application in C++ .NET. Develop simple test benches and ways to improve efficiency in various existing test benches. Examples includes writing simple scripts to eliminate user input stall time. ## Education ### Master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering University of Washington ### BS Electrical Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering University of Washington ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/thangphu --- Source: https://flows.cv/thangphu JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/thangphu/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
