# Tianhao (Mike) Zou > Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft Location: Redmond, Washington, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/tianhao Software engineer with a passion for both technology and visual art (and physics). I’m dedicated to building large scale distributed data pipelines ingesting petabytes of data for Microsoft clients and devices (yes all the big words). On the side, I also dabble at vlogging and currently squeezing some free time to build cool VR experiences. Check out my videos at https://youtube.com/user/9511mike ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2024 – Present | Redmond, Washington, United States Work on Microsoft 365 Deployment team managing orchestration of 200+ services, including Exchange backend, Copilot search, etc. on 300K+ on-premises and Azure based machines. ### Software Engineer II @ Microsoft Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 | Redmond, Washington, United States Instead of crash dumps, I now focus on logs ingestion for Microsoft clients and devices at massive scale. We built features to help converge client (worldwide) and service telemetry (in Azure). This enables our customers to stitch data together for a more cohesive analytics experience (think Xbox player stats + server side game logs). I also actively worked on solving architectural issues of noisy neighbor problems. ### Software Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | Redmond, Washington We collect crash dumps from all devices on Windows, Xbox and Office around the globe! Please kindly think of us when your PowerPoint crashes or Minecraft freezes. - Data Ingestion service and telemetry collection at Microsoft Azure - Implemented chunked log upload service to connect ingestion layer with backend near real time streaming pipeline - Refactored and restructured monolithic code base to migrate our service onto Azure App Service platform, deprecate reliance on legacy technologies - Designed and led cross team projects to create new big data pipelines for Windows telemetry - Ingestion service convergence, devops and designing scalable systems for distributed logging ### Unity VR Software Engineer @ Grinnell College Immersive Experiences Lab (GCIEL) Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Grinnell, Iowa - Built immersive experiences (for education purpose) in historical settings using Unity and VRTK - Designed and implemented object interactions and the inventory system with interesting take on gesture controls - Lead numerous “body”storming sessions where we mock up creative means of teleportation, control panel, item collection and object interaction, with paper, pen and other physical objects. These sessions were aimed at prototyping an interaction system that’s interactive while also in congruence with the historical context. This was an amazing project experience.
