My diverse design background in Architectural and UX design has yielded a sweet overlap between systems thinking and user-centered design.
Responsibilities:
Collaborating closely with a tight-knit pod consisting of Product Manager, Researcher, and Designer (myself) to ship consumer app experiences aiming to help users gain peace of mind via features and services designed to understand, monitor, and manage their heart health
Formulated AliveCor's design internship curriculum, and currently managing and mentoring our first intern
Acting as key stakeholder and consultant on all design projects to maintain design system consistency across the entire organization
Partnering closely with developers to overseeing code implementation of design system in iOS and Android
Key Impact in 2021:
Increased total number of premium app subscriptions by 400% by improving in-app upsell designs, writing better intercept messaging, and orchestrating premium feature previews throughout the app
Increased conversion of 45+ day-old accounts to premium subscription by 133% through a single upsell design
Partnered with 1 product manager and a team of iOS and Android developers as sole designer on 8 app releases in one year
Successfully launched 2 new products (KardiaMobile Card hardware and KardiaCare+ corporate payer program) on aggressive timelines
Decreased volume of Customer Care calls related to user confusion around Clinician Review EKG interpretations. My design provided users with supplemental information about their determination, what actions they can take with this information, and what might be causing the arrhythmia.
In addition to core consumer app design work as sole designer on a 6-week release schedule, I also built AliveCor’s comprehensive, cross-platform design system from scratch. This project includes a full component library for both mobile and web, as well as a refactored token naming convention that enables ease of rebranding and accessibility modes
Updated all app screens (~200) to adhere to a consistent design system.
Collaborated with cross-functional partners across marketing, customer care, engineering, product management, and research to improve our process and foster a culture of early sharing, integrating feedback, and building trust, improving team morale and quickening project delivery.
2019 — 2021

Key Impact:
Designed and launched KardiaCare, AliveCor's premium app subscription offering, which, at the time of launch, provided users with services such as a monthly summary report, care management plans, autosharing with caregivers, credits for clinician reviews, and medication tracking. This project, which encompassed 120 high fidelity screen designs, information architecture planning, and strategic product roadmapping, was delivered on a 3 month timeline.
Increased premium subscriptions by 86% within 8 months after launch
Created a Figma filing and naming structure adopted across a growing design team to optimize for cross-functional collaboration. This allowed engineers to easily identify the status of design files (ie. design locked or in-review) as well as enabled commercial partners to find screens easily for marketing and sales materials.
Updated our App Store and Google Play Store images to give users a better picture of app features
Filled in as Product Manager for 2 months, working closely with a Technical Product Manager to ship 2 releases
Mapped user flows and designed screens for launch of Kardia Advanced Determinations (v2 algorithm)

HUPPY/DELIGHTFUL
Helped shape their brand story through rigorous investigations of how humans shift their attitudes towards enacting change depending on their position as consumer versus Earth-occupant. Advised on interaction and visual design of brand website, which is currently under construction.
Previously conducted human factors research and design strategy for Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas renovation under contract with Taylor Design. Research provides insight into user journey and environmental context through storytelling, flow mapping, and photo documentation.
Methods used: user/group interview, collage, observation, immersion, insight statements.
Current deliverables: strategy and design recommendations.
2018 — 2019
Carlsbad, California
DESIGN:
Increased App Store rating from 3.9 to 4.2 in 6 months by reducing user friction in onboarding and tracking experience, as well as redesigning UI to be modern and ADA compliant.
Boosted first night engagement (tracked) from 29% to 43% through sticky empty states and benefits-focused onboarding experience.
Conceived of and brought to life 13 new app features (including weekly report, community polls, sounds for falling asleep, streaks, sleep sanctuary, etc) over 6 months, 16 iOS releases.
Devised and led ongoing “UX Forum” workshop series, inviting all company employees to participate in 10-15 person IDEO-inspired workshops to gather inspiration, implement design-thinking company-wide, and obtain buy-in from all departments.
RESEARCH:
Conducted one-on-one user interviews to investigate friction points and to test and refine upcoming features.
Identified gaps in delivery to target user personas by writing and organizing 2 separate SurveyMonkey questionnaires, each consisting of ~20-30 questions. This helped redirect and focus design efforts towards data visualization, helping "bio-hacking" user group make the most of their app experience.
BRAND:
Collaborated with marketing team to redesign corporate website, telling the story of our ecosystem (e-commerce, expert validation services, sleep tracker, articles & resources) through the lens of our app, which is the heart of our company.
