During my research internship at UCSD's Protolab, my project's research topic focused on how we could push novices to see beyond the surface details of an example and develop a deep understanding that supports novel ideas. For instance, a novice tackling a placemaking project may look at other placemaking examples for inspiration, but may fail to identify the characteristics that make a placemaking project successful.

We wanted to explore the role of tags in encouraging deeper analysis of examples, resulting in the development of a React tagging interface implemented with Meteor to facilitate communication between frontend and backend.

• Programmed the tagging interface using React and Meteor, designing the database through collections that properly compiled various measurements
• Administered user tests and iterated on various tagging interfaces designed and prototyped in Adobe XD and Figma
• Customized JavaScript on Qualtrics to construct surveys that met the needs of the study
