# Tiffany Sanchez > Software Engineer at IBM Location: New York City Metropolitan Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/tiffanysanchez My road to software engineering has been a winding path, complete with turns and detours. My first introduction to software engineering was when a friend convinced me to take an 'Intro to CS' elective with her so she wouldn't be alone. Almost immediately, I was falling in love. As I learned to code, I realized that I loved everything about it. I loved the flexibility that it provided, because I could apply what I was learning to any industry or discipline that interested me. I loved the constant challenges that continued to push me to think differently, deeply and creatively for solutions to problems. And even more importantly, the skills that I was learning gave me the ability to create positive change in the world by giving me the ability to build just about anything I could imagine. I immediately switched majors from Linguistics to Computer Science the next semester. Sadly, three years into my studies as a CS Major, I had to drop out due to a difficult financial situation in my family. This didn't mean that I was going to give up on my dream of becoming a Software Engineer. I began researching my options and found the WDF program at Fullstack Academy, funded by the NY Tech Talent Pipeline. This program offered me exactly the boost I needed to reach for my goals. During my time as a student in the program we not only delved deep into high level CS Theory, but also learned to bridge the gap between theory and practice through the projects we worked on throughout the program, each one more complex than the last. I successfully completed the program, and after completing an apprenticeship, I got my first job as a Software Engineer. There, I worked on large and small projects, both on my own and within a larger team, that challenged me in new and interesting ways. I had to learn new languages and technologies, as well as further developed the skills that I already had. I was given the opportunity to continue to learn as I put my skills to use and I know that in the future my desire and ability to keep learning will continue to mold me into a better Engineer every day. The experiences that I have lived in my volunteer work throughout the years have helped me to see the impact that one person can have, and more specifically, the power that I have to help others. After Graduating and entering the work-force as a Software Engineer I was able to see all of the different ways in which my skills could be used to help people. I hope to continue to use my quickly growing skills to do just that. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ IBM Jan 2023 – Present | New York, New York, United States ### Software Engineer @ IBM Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | Poughkeepsie, New York, United States Understand user and system requirements, use this knowledge to design, code, and test innovative software solutions.
