- Explored trade-off between convergence and communication frequency when training different machine learning models in a distributed parameter server setting
- Recorded training times and number of iterations until convergence for synchronous and asynchronous SGD on Logistic Regression, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and Long Short Term Memory Recurrent Neural Network (LSTM RNN) experiments
- Found that effects of server communication frequency vary by model and update synchronicity
- Used Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit (CNTK) for CNN and LSTM experiments, Microsoft Distributed Machine Learning Toolkit (DMTK) for Logistic Regression
