# Tyler Fowler > Senior Software Engineer at LinkedIn Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/tylerfowler I am a passionate full stack developer who specializes in distributed cloud applications. When I say full stack I mean that I am capable of handling everything from application architecture, to infrastructure engineering, backend & frontend development, and oftentimes even UI/UX design. That covers a very wide range but frankly, I get bored very easily. I'm constantly learning new technologies and new ways of doing things that have been taken for granted, which is exactly why I love the modern web so much. I love how rapidly it moves, I love that there are so many options, and I love using those bleeding edge technologies; constantly rethinking everything we know about the web and the platforms we build on it. As such, I do my best not get too attached to any particular technology or language and pride myself on quickly being able to adapt to new environments, easily my most honed skill. Current languages of choice: - JavaScript for the frontend (and sometimes backend) - Go for the backend and tooling ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ LinkedIn Jan 2024 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States Once again, after showing great interest in how to scale LinkedIn's hyper-custom move to Kubernetes, I was invited to join the official Kubernetes team at LinkedIn. In this role I am diving deep on our internal kubectl plugins, how we deploy stateful systems at scale and the DX for doing so. ### Senior Software Engineer @ LinkedIn Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | San Francisco, California, United States Transitioned to the Graph engineering team at LinkedIn, where I brought LinkedIn's sophisticated, hyper-performant Graph technology to Kubernetes. This included taking the lead on the path towards database containerization and contributing back to the overall LinkedIn Kubernetes strategy. As a result we discovered how to efficiently and performantly containerize our Graph database, while showing how Kubernetes improved its operability. During this process I also showed how the company could make use of Kubernetes' flexibility to greatly increase our capacity headroom while greatly reducing the amount of idle hardware needed to run it at a very high level of availability. ### Senior Software Engineer @ LinkedIn Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States After showing great interest in the internal LinkedIn movement for IaC, I transitioned to the internal Terraform team early on. I was able to contribute many features to this greenfield project, and work tightly with leadership to engineer a path towards IaC for thousands of engineers and dozens of internal services. I lead the product vision and was a primary mover in the development of internal standards for IaC as a concept. This position allowed me to exercise my passion for building great products from all stages and pieces of the stack. Unfortunately, this project was placed on pause and I moved on to my next internal role, modernizing the LinkedIn stack for a Kubernetes-forward world. ### Senior Site Reliability Engineer @ LinkedIn Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | Sunnyvale, CA Worked on reliability and performance features in Feed & Economic Graph products as part of the wider "Social Graph" SRE team . In addition to constant monitoring and insurance of availability of various large scale systems, I developed several product features including backup procedures for internal Feed services. Other various tasks range from GC tuning on large scale, high performance systems to observability automation and process building within the org. As any other SRE, I dedicated one week out of every quarter to ensuring oncall remained manageable for the next person. During my time on this team I managed many acute production issues, seeing each through to resolution and postmortem – with a severe focus on user experience. I also managed several longer term issues and initiatives to resolution, working with stakeholders across the company well into the parent organization (Microsoft) to secure lasting results. ### Board Member - Treasurer @ Manor Records Foundation Jan 2025 – Present ### Full Stack Software Engineer - Platform @ Bethesda Game Studios Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Austin, Texas Area Worked on the Platform Services team to harden the microservices and infrastructure that power Fallout '76. Server programming took place on AWS using Go, and frontend programming utilized React/Redux using TypeScript. In addition to server programming tasks, served as lead Frontend Engineer for the team. Developing web UIs, primarily in TypeScript. As part of this, I was responsible for owning code standards and developer education to enable to the rest of the team to contribute. ### Senior Full Stack Engineer @ Ant Group Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Kansas City, Missouri, United States Assumed a role as tech lead for a small team of backend and devops engineers, working closely with management, our international (Beijing primarily) colleagues and clients. Played a role in architecting a new product from scratch, seeing it through the development process and ultimately to its launch. While also doing a great deal of DevOps work setting up infrastructure on AWS and the Ant Financial cloud and building the product itself, primarily using Java 8 + Spring on the backend and React + Redux on the frontend. ### Full Stack Engineer @ Ant Group Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | Kansas City, Missouri, United States As a result of the acquisition of EyeVerify by Ant Group, I worked on an international team primarily with colleagues in Beijing. During this time my focus shifted to collaborating on Java based projects running on Ant Financial's proprietary cloud platform with clients across Southeast Asia. Brainstormed product development on new ideas, formalizing APIs and use cases with partners across Asia, and leading a small team in Kansas City to collaborate with counterparts in China to implement them. ### Full Stack Engineer @ ZOLOZ Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 | Kansas City, Missouri, United States Full stack development on a variety of projects using a variety of frameworks.
