# Venita Subramanian > Principal Product Design Leader @ Microsoft | Vision & Strategy for Secure AI UX at Scale | Responsible AI & Narrative-Driven Design Location: Seattle, Washington, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/venita I’m a Principal Design Leader at Microsoft, where I lead strategy and execution across some of the company’s most complex security, identity, and AI-powered product experiences. Over the past six years, my work has focused on designing systems that are not only usable at scale, but secure, trustworthy, and responsible by design. I currently lead Secure by Design UX efforts as part of Microsoft’s Secure Future Initiative (SFI), helping embed security and risk-aware thinking into product development across the company. I co-led the creation of the Secure by Design UX toolkit, now adopted by more than 22,000 employees across Microsoft, enabling teams to identify vulnerabilities earlier, build safer products, and operationalize secure design practices at scale. The work has influenced teams across Security, Windows, Xbox, Azure, Teams, and Copilot, and has also been shared externally as a model for integrating security culture into product development. In parallel, I led vision and strategy work for Microsoft Global Secure Access, bringing together identity, access, and network protections into a unified experience and helping position Microsoft within the rapidly growing Secure Access (SASE/SSE) space. Across Microsoft Entra’s identity platform, I have led major experience initiatives in Conditional Access, external identities, and cross-tenant administration, shaping how organizations protect access while maintaining usability at enterprise scale. My work also includes advancing responsible AI practices within product teams, helping translate Responsible AI principles into practical product decisions through tooling, workflows, and design guidance. I have helped teams operationalize transparency, user control, and safety considerations before features ship. A key part of my experience lies in identity and user-aware access scenarios, designing systems that must balance protection, inclusion, and usability. This work increasingly intersects with broader questions about how technology systems interact safely with a wide range of users. Across roles, I’m known for simplifying complexity, aligning organizations around shared vision, and building cross-disciplinary momentum to deliver impact. I’m motivated by work that ensures emerging technologies scale responsibly and create safer outcomes for the people who depend on them. ## Work Experience ### Principal UX Design Lead, Microsoft Security @ Microsoft Jan 2022 – Present | Seattle, Washington, United States - Lead a cross-disciplinary team of hundreds of collaborators across design, engineering, product, and research to drive the UX strategy for Secure by Design, building consensus across the company to establish scalable practices and tooling for secure-by-design product development. - Co-led the creation of the Secure Future Initiative (SFI) UX toolkit, adopted by over 22,000 employees and shared externally to support broader industry alignment on secure design practices. - Launched programs to scale secure UX knowledge and adoption across the company, creating a networked model of influence, shared learning, and peer support. - Pitched, defined the strategy for, and led the development of AI-powered tools and self-serve audit models to help teams identify security vulnerabilities earlier in the product lifecycle and elevate their secure design maturity. - Delivered 50+ talks to more than 1,500 employees to build awareness, increase adoption, and align secure UX efforts across organizational boundaries. - Led the vision, strategy, and launch of Microsoft Global Secure Access (2023), the company’s first Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution, creating unified protections for identity, access, and network connectivity and enabling scalable, cohesive enterprise experiences. - Shipped core features across Microsoft Entra’s identity and network access product suite, including Conditional Access, External Identities, and cross-tenant administration. - Serve as Responsible AI driver, supporting teams in applying RAI principles through tailored guidance, integrated tooling, and collaboration with central policy owners to align org-wide practices with day-to-day product work. - Known for systems thinking, narrative building, and inclusive leadership, aligning vision and execution while building trust and momentum across disciplines. ### Senior UX Designer, Azure Identity and Network Access @ Microsoft Jan 2019 – Jan 2022 | Redmond, Washington ### UX Design Lead, Amazon Fashion @ Amazon Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Greater Seattle Area Drove key initiatives to humanize and scale personalized shopping experiences by blending machine learning with thoughtful, inclusive design. - Led the vision and design of the onboarding and first-interaction experience for Prime Stylist, a personalized styling service combining ML with real human stylists.
