# Vince Voong > Product Designer & Developer | 10 Years in Enterprise Identity, Security & Access Management | AI Infrastructure Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/vincevoong Spent 10 years building enterprise SaaS, most of it working on identity and security products at Okta. My background is in product design, and most of my career has been about making complex systems usable — access policies, authentication, device trust, and the kind of infrastructure companies depend on but users shouldn't have to think about. I also code — mostly prototyping and building in Python and React. I like working across design and engineering, and I think the best product work happens when you can move between the two. Right now I'm focused on how identity, permissions, and authorization evolve as AI agents get real access to enterprise tools and data. Exploring that space hands-on — researching, building, and talking to the people working through it. ## Work Experience ### IAM & AI Infrastructure @ Independent Researcher Jan 2025 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States Researching and building at the intersection of identity management and AI systems. Focused on how authentication, authorization, and access control evolve as AI agents gain access to enterprise tools and data. ### Principal Product Designer @ Okta Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 Designed a new capability that extended Okta's device assurance product with custom posture checks, owning the full experience across the admin console and endpoint agent. Partnered with the research team and spoke directly with customers to surface migration blockers that shaped the product direction. Much of this work centered on balancing admin flexibility against complexity, shipping speed against security rigor, and device enforcement against end-user trust in BYOD environments. Mentored junior designers and partnered with design and research leadership on annual planning and cross-functional alignment. ### Staff Product Designer @ Okta Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 Extended Okta's device assurance platform with third-party integration support — including Chrome Device Trust connector — enabling organizations to incorporate external device security signals into access decisions. Designed the v2 end-user sign-in experience, expanding support for biometric factors, custom TOTP, and WebAuthn. Both efforts required close cross-functional coordination to ship meaningful capability without adding admin complexity. ### Senior Product Designer @ Okta Jan 2018 – Jan 2021 Partnered with a cross-functional team to redesign Okta's core authentication policy engine — the system admins use to configure what type of authentication applies to which users and applications. Worked closely with research to gather customer insights, which led to a design that lets admins choose between assurance level guidance or granular authenticator selection, with contextual security warnings as guardrails. OIE now powers phishing-resistant passwordless authentication for thousands of organizations. ### Product Designer @ Okta Jan 2015 – Jan 2018 ### Founding UX Designer @ OnMyBlock Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 Founding designer at an early-stage startup — relocated to San Francisco to build the product. Led design end-to-end: ran user interviews, defined feature specs, and shipped across web and mobile on compressed timelines. Created the pitch deck that helped raise $5M in Series A and built the brand identity from the ground up. ### UX Designer / Programming Analyst @ Center for Wireless and Population Health Systems, Qualcomm Institute (CALIT2) Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | La Jolla, California Designed workflows and interfaces for ThreeTwoMe, a web and mobile health research platform focused on weight loss goals for study participants. Built wireframes, ran user surveys, and iterated on designs based on participant feedback. Early career experience in designing within research constraints and shipping usable tools for a real user base. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science: Specialization in Human Computer Interaction UC San Diego ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/vincentvoong - Portfolio: https://vincevoong.com/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/vincevoong JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/vincevoong/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-31
