Managed and improved state-of-art multi-million dollars facilities and more than 15 types of advanced characterization tools to study secondary organic aerosol (SOA). Managed multiple projects, totaling $500,000, and coordinated with research groups and agencies from all over the world.

Coordinated with Naval Sea Warfare Center (NSWC) and led the project of developing an automated hydrocarbon contamination measurement system. Co-designed and built the first model, which is in the process of being applied to more than 20 US Navy laboratories around the world.

Member of an international team comparing emissions from a large ferry operating natural gas and diesel fuels. Assembled the exhaust dilution system used by the whole group. Operated and maintained over 8 instruments in the ship engine room. Measured criteria and toxic pollutants, hydrocarbons as well as exhaust flow rate using standard methods. Analyzed global warming and health risk effects. Contributed to monthly discussion on campaign preparation and data analysis with other research groups, government agencies and industrial companies.

Evaluated the aging products of VOCs from vehicle tailpipe emissions at different drive conditions. Conducted the first study to assess the SOA formation potential from volatile chemical products (VCPs) which are emerging as largest petrochemical sources of urban organic emissions. Characterized the evaporation rates of VCPs and major volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
