# Will Atwood > Art and design, digital and physical Location: Oakland, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/willatwood Portfolio: www.willatwood.com/ I design products and experiences that fuse engineering, interaction, and aesthetics into a seamless union— both in the digital and the material worlds. While my work has spanned across different industries, the projects have shared a common theme— the development and application of emerging technology to enable exciting new aspects of human experience, interaction, and connection. ## Work Experience ### 3D Artist @ Marpi Studio Jan 2018 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States Collaboratively creating immersive experiences that engage audiences with new ways to interact with art and technology. ### Freelance Designer @ Will Atwood Design Jan 2015 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area • Creative direction for products, experiences, immersive installations, and AR/VR • Art direction for branding, marketing campaigns, and visual storytelling • UI/UX design, design strategy, mockups, storyboards, pitch decks, user interviews and user testing • 3D modeling, animation, previsualization, real-time rendering, photoreal rendering, interactive media • Experience managing design teams, mentoring junior designers, and providing art direction • Ambient content, generative content, data visualization • Drone light show creative direction and animation • Software: Blender 3D, Adobe CC (PS, AE, AI, ID), Unity, Keynote Recent Projects: • Drone light show animation for Coachella 2023, The Coronation of King Charles, and the first drone show at the Las Vegas Sphere • MSG Sphere - Concept development and previsualization for large-scale immersive Exosphere content • Doodle Putt - Concept development and previsualization for a real-life immersive mini-golf course at Art Basel Miami 2022 • Swordfish - Art direction and motion graphics for a massive screen on the ceiling of a cruise ship ### Creative Director | Intel Drone Light Shows @ Intel Corporation Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area • Led creative development for high-profile drone light show projects, working directly with large clients and managing multiple stakeholders • Collaborated on client pitches, creating previsualization renders and animations to sell show concepts for sports events, independence day celebrations, product launches, music festivals, and more • Developed storyboards, designed animated scenes, and optimized choreography to create seamless and engaging drone light show experiences • Ensured safety and technical feasibility by considering drone collision avoidance, spacing, speed, and animation techniques • Applied emergent technology to enhance storytelling, surprise, and delight audiences through innovative use of drone capabilities • Developed modular tools and processes to streamline the show creation process, improving efficiency and collaboration within the team • Intel Drone Light Shows team became the first successful acquisition exit out of EGI (Emerging Growth and Incubation) at Intel, transitioning to become Nova Sky Stories ### Experience Designer @ Obscura Digital Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Designing and visualizing interactive and experiential concepts—both for large corporate clients, and also for the development of Madison Square Garden's newest venue, the MSG Sphere (an 18,000 person immersive stadium opening in 2023). • Physical installation design and the creation/integration of accompanying digital content • Concept ideation and quick mock-ups to demonstrate designs • Creating high-fidelity rendered images and animations to be used in pitches, presentations, and marketing materials • Immersive content creation for spherical displays and virtual reality • Client presentations and integrating stakeholder feedback • Design direction for real-time graphics tools to be used at MSG Sphere • Creating technical guidelines and outlining best practices for spherical content • Show design and development for MSG Sphere’s inaugural production ### Product Design Engineer @ Kaading Games Jan 2011 – Jan 2015 | Menlo Park, CA Kaading was an inspiring environment in which I took on many roles in a team setting with a large degree of independence. Kaading solves the problem of latency in synchronous human interaction over wireless networks through complex predictive algorithms and feedback control systems. Put simply, Kaading is ultimately about connecting people remotely through machines— something that directly appeals to me as both a designer and engineer. As the first hire at Kaading, I participated at every level of the company, employing a variety of both technical and creative skills. My role has involved high-level strategy formulation, game development and design, UI/UX, web development and design, presentation design, technology demonstration... etc. ### Co-Founder @ CoolBeams Jan 2011 – Jan 2014 | San Francisco Bay Area My design for my first product, Spectracles, departs from the classic paradigm of flip-up glasses. The mechanism uses an over-center linkage to flip up and down easily, and more importantly, stylishly. This project presents challenges in that it combines fashion, interaction, and moving parts. Working alongside my co-founder, Tom Berry, I brought Spectracles from drawings and laser-cut prototypes to a fully fleshed out product with injection molded parts. This endeavor taught me the reality of industrial design, where engineering constraints and aesthetic values can conflict quite often, requiring clever solutions and compromises to create an appealing yet durable object. The process was supremely educational and showed us just how arduous, yet rewarding, it can be to build a product from the ground up. Our customers are extremely enthusiastic about the product, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of the whole experience—I love to create things that excite and delight. I am involved at every level of the company, including engineering and design for manufacturing, injection mold design, sourcing and assembly, marketing, graphic design... etc. We are currently on hiatus after selling out of our first batch of 1200 pairs, while considering producing another batch after streamlining the manufacturing process. ### Graphic Designer @ Keane Design Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 Formatting figures (tables, flow-charts, diagrams) for technical pharmaceutical books regarding the evaluation and release of drugs. ### United States Senate Internship @ Office of Senator Max Baucus Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 Research and writing in tandem with a legislative assistant working on Veterans Affairs, writing briefs for legislative assistants to report to the Senator, responding by letter to constituents ## Education ### B.S. in Mechanical Engineering: Product Design Stanford University ### Helena High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/will-atwood - Website: http://www.willatwood.com/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/willatwood JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/willatwood/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-08
