•Built an remote-controlled 4-wing flapper airplane (weight 20g, wing-span 11.8in) using carbon fiber. The flying gesture and speed are controlled by servos and a brushless motor.
•Designed an automatically triggered landing gear (weight 3.8g) to mimic the behavior of bird claws, which enabled an UAV to land on vertical walls of different textures including polyethylene, wood and concrete.
•Created models and 3D printed prototypes with special consideration of strength-to-weight ratio.
•Tested and analyzed the performance of the landing gear using high speed cameras (1/2000 sec). Improved designs based on the retracting speed and momentum of the snapping arms.
