# Yi-Cheng Lai > Autonomous Vehicles Software Engineer@ITCA | MS Robotics@UMICH Location: Santa Clara, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/yichenglai I am Yi-Cheng Lai. I finished my Robotics master's degree at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (Umich) and am now working at Isuzu Technical Center of America (ITCA) as a sw engineer. I am mainly working on perception and localization algorithms such as sensor fusion (Camera, LiDAR, and IMU) for SLAM, state estimation, and transformer based perception models for autonomous vehicle system. I possess a great interest in robotics localization and perception. I began to learn CV and robotics knowledge by doing undergraduate projects in my senior year. I have kept enhancing my skills in these areas by taking courses and doing projects in Computer Vision, Deep Learning, and Mobile Robotics after I came to the US. In my previous study at the University of Michigan, I worked on learning-base tasks such as image classification and object detection (FCOS and F-RCNN). In addition, I worked on traditional CV tasks such as object tracking and image fitting by Homography Matrix and features matching. I also worked on modifying ORB-SLAM2 with the deep learning visual odometry method to fix the scaling issue in mono-camera odometry. During my last year at Umich, I took math courses (Matrix Methods for Signal Processing and Non-linear Programming) to sharpen my knowledge in linear algebra and optimization. It helps me a lot in understanding the math in SLAM algorithms. In the summer of 2022, I started to work as an intern at ITCA. I focus mainly on self-driving functions for localization and perception. The works I've done during the summer include designing new features, algorithm benchmarking, and improving the performance of the existing software stack. I obtained solid skills in autonomous driving and hands-on experience in Python and C++ during the internship. I had great teamwork with the engineers in the team and got a return offer to keep working at ITCA. I am now focusing on localization and play an important role in the project that ISUZU collaborates with Applied Intuition. Through the inspiration of the above experience and my enthusiasm for Robotics, I am excited to keep working on the perception/localization in autonomous vehicle industry and keep exploring this fascinating area to fulfill my career goal. ## Work Experience ### Engineer I, Autonomous & Artificial Intelligence @ Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc Jan 2024 – Present | Mountain View, California, United States ### Contract Engineer, Autonomous Driving @ Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Plymouth, Michigan, United States ### Student Researcher @ UM & Ford Center for Autonomous Vehicles (FCAV) Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | Michigan, United States ### Advanced Engineering Intern @ ISUZU TECHNICAL CENTER OF AMERICA, INC.
