# Yingze Hou > CS Graduate at University of California-Berkeley with distributed system and web development expertise | Responsible and thoughtful team contributor Location: Berkeley, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/yingze Being an enthusiastic individual motivated by real-world problems and demands, I find coding and analysis to be the most powerful tool to navigate through this dynamic world. My passion and persistence in learning rewards me with a strong academic performance and a wide range of professional skill sets, which equipped me sufficiently to tackle real-world challenges. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer II @ StubHub Jan 2025 – Present | United States ### Software Engineer @ StubHub Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | United States Design, implement, and communicate with users for an internal Content Management System for content creation, cobranding, version control, dependency management, and many more as a Full Stack .ASPNet & React developer ### Machine Learning Engineer @ MSCI Inc. Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Berkeley, California, United States Performing physical assets enhancement, specifically with image segmentation and classification to contour mining operation sites from satellite images and extract real-world geographical information ### DBMS Undergraduate Research Assistant @ University of Wisconsin-Madison Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | Madison, Wisconsin, United States The DBMS group is targeting at innovating the disaggregated layered structure in modern distributed Cloud-OLTP databases from both academic and commercial perspective, and is trying to summarize how modern systems like Aurora, TiDB, PolarDB, and etc. are doing. Being my first time reading intensive technical papers and contributing to large-scale infrastructure codebases, I managed to understand the codebase by a mimic-to-create strategy, and summarize papers in a layered-hierarchy way ### Computer Vision Research Assistant @ University of Wisconsin-Madison Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 WiNGS Lab is proposing a way of using Neural Networks to facilitate firefighters in fire fighting scenes to memorize and locate fire-fighting equipments more efficient to boost up rescue speed. I researched modern object-detection models to pick the most suitable one, and improved it in a way to not only display object boxes, but also show the outer contour in a bit-map format to better determine which specific equipment it is ### Software Engineer @ Anaplan Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area Anaplan's service ranging from cloud platform data analysis, market trend prediction, and clients' task exchange. In order to fix the problem on messy log tracing in distributed system, I worked in core workflow team to develop an entire distributed log tracing system using Open-Telemetry that covers API transactions between 10+ micro-services. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Meituan Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Beijing, China Meituan's Financial Department is pioneering a program in Asset Backed Securities (ABS) to generate active cash-flow by selling packages of customer loans to security brokers. Therefore, there's a huge amount of trading information exchange between the company and brokers, which causes a efficiency bottleneck when dealing with individual brokers based on different demands. To fix this problem, I get involved into the core development team to design and build a distributed trading dashboard that allows both party to get a real-time sync and complete payment settlement easily. The task involves a lot of advanced software topics like database transaction, parallel computing, and API design, where I learn and practice to be successful ### Team Captain @ FIRST Tech Challenge Jan 2015 – Jan 2019 | Beijing, China Team captain and lead engineer in team "DEFY" for Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University. Mechanical Engineer and designer for team "Fat Dragon" in the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China Build robots with Solidworks and PTC for 3D model design for 4 seasons of FTC and FRC competition and apply Java coding on Android Studio and sensor manipulation for automatic operation of robots. Lead the team win the Championship in China and step into FTC World Championship in Huston for 2 consecutive years and won second prize ## Education ### Master of Engineering - MEng in EECS University of California, Berkeley ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Science University of Wisconsin-Madison ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/yingze-hou - Portfolio: https://yingzehou.github.io/portfolio/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/yingze JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/yingze/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
