# Zane Mattingly > Senior Software Engineer Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/zanemattingly If I were a Software Engineer archetype, I'd say I fall square into the category of "Builder" (I'd make a great Dwarf). I've always enjoyed constructing designs (as my rather sizable LEGO collection will attest), and during my adolescence I spent countless hours building levels for the video games I'd become enthralled with. As I delved deeper it opened the door to more advanced coding and before long it was clear that programming was the perfect way to endlessly scratch that creative itch. The most satisfying aspect, and the reason I never seem to get tired of it, is the fact that ultimately your only limitation is your imagination. I found the ability to translate mere mental constructs into lines of carefully arranged, and nearly arcane, symbols and syntax something akin to alchemy with the end results producing a tangible, usable program. It was modern-day wizardry. Self-taught, I'm always curious to explore new terrain. I have sometimes been called the "glue" in a team due to my broad flexibility and capacity to fill in gaps. For me, the most rewarding element of coding collaboratively is that gut-level satisfaction after coming together and successfully deploying your constructed slice of functionality to the world. I've been fortunate to enjoy the benefit of some incredible mentors along my journey who took me under their wing and showed me the ropes, and I find there's always something new to learn from everyone you meet. I truly enjoy trading knowledge and working with engineers of all experience levels. I've found solidifying my own understanding of a subject by collaborating with another engineer is almost always more personally rewarding than solving a problem on my own. I wholeheartedly believe that this symbiotic process produces compound results, in both directions, and teams soon become unique pools of shared experience and accomplishments. I am an experienced Software Engineer who is well-versed in the design, implementation, and deployment pipeline. I take pride in the wide array of skills I've acquired which allow me to contribute to an organization and prove productive regardless of environment. I champion mentorship and collaboration, I always seek to improve, and I believe every challenge faced is worth new knowledge gained. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Quantcast Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area ● Primarily Frontend-focused, developing dedicated microservice webapps. ○ Creation and buildout of Insights and Trends dashboard visualization app. ○ Lead Engineer in broad UX changes supporting new cookie-less AdTech. ○ Cross-platform Impact Measurement UX for both publishers and clients. ● Extensive experience with React and related technologies (Hooks, Redux, etc). ● Contributor and maintainer of company-wide UI component library. ● Technologies include TypeScript, GraphQL, Apollo and Cypress ### Software Engineer @ Qwil Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco, CA ● Lead Engineer of front-end feature development, extension, and maintenance. ● Shipped design and functionality milestones for the 2.0 version of the AngularJS webapp. ● Expanded core unit tests and code coverage through Jasmine and TDD. ### Software Engineer @ NetCE Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Roseville, CA ● Worked in a small two-person team to create a new internal Django-driven business metrics site. ● Built a mobile-forward Client Services dashboard powered by Django REST Framework and AngularJS. ● Created a webhooks integration to handle signals from third-party services and spawn queued jobs via RabbitMQ to update internal data. ### Web Engineer @ For Goodness Sake Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 ● Javascript-driven HTML5 Canvas simulation feature and QA development with Selenium. ● QA Lead focused on performance metrics across a large in-house mobile device lab. ● Minor server-side development using Java (Spring) with Broadleaf integration. ### Software Engineer @ bepress Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 | Berkeley, CA ● Primarily focused on maintenance and extension of the core legacy Perl system. ● Key feature development for each major version release (Live Readership Map, Image Gallery Tools, Symposium Organizer, Dynamic Multiple Resolution Image Zoom, among many others). ● Mentored Junior Engineers through routine code review and collaboration with a strong investment in their goals and professional development. ### Junior Software Engineer @ bepress Jan 2008 – Jan 2012 | Berkeley, CA ● Product enhancements and development, frontend focused features. ● Developed a robust web testing framework with the use of Selenium and Jenkins. ● Continued to aquire new skills, abilities, and processes through senior mentorship. ### Client Services Representative @ bepress Jan 2007 – Jan 2008 | Berkeley, CA ● Worked directly with academic journal editors and other publications to implement their requests and accomodate their needs. ● Modification and extension of frontend websites though HTML/CSS along with an in-house templating language. ● Technical support of end users and product administrators to solve issues with exceptional service. ## Education ### Full-Stack Software Engineering Immersive in Computer Software Engineering Hack Reactor Jan 2018 ### Software Engineering Self Taught Jan 2003 – Jan 2021 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/zanemattingly - GitHub: http://github.com/zmattingly --- Source: https://flows.cv/zanemattingly JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/zanemattingly/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
