Our team is positioned as an in-house design hub dedicated to elevating the design maturity for the Analytics Center of Excellence. As the project and design lead for our Data Design System, my efforts are centered on enhancing design and engineering integration and standardization across the board. ### Product Experience Designer II - Healthcare AI @ Tencent Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Shenzhen, Guangdong, China • Designed a spatiotemporal algorithm-driven city-wide Disease Monitoring System. Established empirical design strategies to improve human-computer trust by enhancing Explainable AI and Human-in-the-loop. • The work has been deployed for Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention, helping to monitor 400k sensitive populations and protect 10k sensitive institutions, awarded as an Advanced Tech Achievement by the National Office for Science & Technology Awards, and incorporated in China's first Explainable AI Report. • Promoted based on Outstanding performance (top 10%). ### Product Experience Designer - Healthcare AI @ Tencent Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Shenzhen, Guangdong, China • Designed an NLP-Assisted Epidemiologic Survey Tool to make the investigators' work easier. Transformed the traditional workflow of calling, interviewing, manually writing, and transcribing to a modern, easy way with Conversational AI, achieving the goal of WYHIWDE (When You Hear is When the Data is Entered). This work has reduced the survey time from 24 hours to 4 hours and has been featured in The People's Daily, China's equivalent of The NY Times. • Built CareCharts, a DataViz design system to improve the experience consistency of data visualizations across products. • Managed 10 UX volunteers shaping participation experience and delivering a toolkit for Tencent Design Week. ### Guest Lecturer - School of Design @ Nanjing University of the Arts Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Nanjing, Jiangsu, China • Taught a 3-week interactive visualization workshop for graphic design majors with limited knowledge of interaction design. • Self-hosted a wiki for a learner-centered step-by-step syllabus. Led, directed, encouraged, and inspired students to create and curate data-driven user interfaces based on their existing infographic works. • The student video portfolio received 24k views on Wechat Channels. The NPS reached 9.8/10 points in the teaching quality assessment. I was invited by the dean to join the faculty. • Three works have been longlisted in the Information is Beautiful Awards 2022, and one has been shortlisted. ### Experience Designer - Big Data Design Center @ Alibaba Group Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Hangzhou, Zhejiang Shaped user experience for Quick BI, a Gartner® high-rated BI tool, with the pipeline of "data management - data production - data consumption": 1. Data Management: • Designed features of data desensitization and organization management. 2. Data Production: • Built intelligent color mapping strategies for BI users to configure colors aesthetically and scientifically: delivered a configuration scheme in the three layers of "chart - dashboard - web framework" to achieve ACC (Anywhere Color Consistency); collaborated with the engineering team to use ANN and designer-led participatory data training to establish an intelligent algorithm for color generations; designed color picker prototypes as the interface of the algorithm. • Optimized the UX of Conditional Formatting: simplified the configuration by predicting user behaviors based on high-frequency operation data and applying the WYSIWYG principle to reduce the configuration steps from seven to at least one. 3. Data Consumption: • Delivered a competitive research report on Intelligent BI from the perspectives of visualization interaction techniques, ETL, and EDA, which was presented and well received across design, product, and engineering teams. ### Data Visualization Designer - Visualization and Visual Analytics Group @ Peking University Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Remote • Designed the COVID-19 Barometer, which was viewed by millions of people during the very beginning of the epidemic. We used a color-coded pixel matrix to reveal the turning point and introduced cartograms, multiple coordinated views, and logarithmic scales for the general public to reduce data biases. • We collaborated with Tencent to publish it on WeChat Services, making it accessible to as many populations as we cloud. Because of this breakthrough, we were able to present vital scientific data for more than 1M people in the first two months of the outbreak. • The work has been featured by news media such as china.com.cn, Nightingale, GIJN, and dozens of others and has been longlisted in the Information is Beautiful Awards 2022. ### Data Visualization Designer - Visualization and Visual Analytics Group @ Peking University Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Beijing, China Designed a real-time situational awareness system for air traffic management, using large-scale high-dimensional spatiotemporal data to facilitate flight behavior pattern analysis and conflict detection. ### Data Product Designer (C2C Contract Teams) @ Nike Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Beijing, China • Designed a map-based dashboard to present business metrics and insights in a “one-shot” storytelling manner with seamless transitions among any two of the themes. • The dashboard turned Nike's previous annual report from a powerpoint-style linear narrative into a non-linear exploratory one, significantly refreshing their previous reporting methods. It won strong approval from the client after the meeting. ### Data Visualization Designer (Visiting) - Visualization and Visual Analytics Group @ Peking University Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Beijing, China • Delivered a concept design of a Mission Control System aiming for urban and enterprise management under the Smart City Strategy of a local government in China. • Produced an interactive ontology visualization to enhance the readability of the deliverables of the Belt and Road Initiatives. This was originally a large-scale text document and was hard to read.
